The passion for Western-style weddings was first fueled in the 1980's by the televised weddings of Prince Charles and Lady Diana and of the Japanese pop star Momoe Yamaguchi. Since 1996, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the number of Christian weddings has nearly doubled while the number of Shinto weddings has plunged by two-thirds.

Tradition is still there! But I think it's cool for the girls to do a western style because it's a "cool popular thing" to show to friends. The pictures thatis.

Having tradition is one thing, but having something unique for your wedding is something totally different. Alot of people want to have a unique wedding, ive seen some wierd pictures of people with 'original' ideas for their weddings.
I love the japanese culture, but id say i was the only one in my family who does, my entire family is latin. I would really enjoy a traditional style japanese wedding, but i think my family would seriously dissaprove, and if not, dub my the 'wierdo' of the family for life!

I know a lot of people who do a traditional wedding and western wedding... then there are others who get married in a registry office, some have a fancy wedding later, others dont.

When I get married next year, my future wife and I will have a western style wedding, but we will also have some memorial photos taken in traditional costume at a shrine, although probably on a different day.
