Japanese War Crimes Against Humanity

I find the whole game utterly fascinating. (I teach social studies).

The GOP plays it far better than the other (so-called) party

Because of Stalin, Because of Hussein, Because of Kim Jung Il, Because of ETC. it doesn't justify warcrimes of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. What is the logic of "justifying" Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan because United States bombed Vietnam?

"Hey A! you killed B! and I killed C. So we are both not-guilty!"

Every Nation Every Race has their own faults. North Koreans starving and systematically killing 6MILLION Jews. Still some pple don't see the difference.

Koizumi, Murayama, Hosokawa and Obuchi had all apologized to Korea at the summit.

However, I cannot understand from the Japanese that they changed their former opinion as soon as the PMs officially apologized in their own country.

Well, I can understand their (Japanese diplomatics)awkward position to keep a balance between diplomatic decision and domestic oppositions.

But It's kind of stupid that they denied their apologies by themselves after they managed to decide to do so.
Better doing nothing.

I do not raise sensitive historical topics between Korea and Japan because to abide by the treaty of amity in 1965 between both countries.

Both countries officially agreed not to mention history in a government position.
Both diplomatic representatives agree, so I respect it whatever it had controversial problems or not.

And I know most Japanese people today look at their history unfavourably regarding the colonization of Asian countries.

So I have no reason to make them embarrassed by raising this sensitive topic.

To Somebody who will read the upper post.

See this saying...

In 1982, Japan Land minister, "松野幸泰" said
"Korean textbook can be wrong. For example, Nobody knows right or wrong about Korean history text that was written that japan invaded Korea."

In 1986, education minister"Husio Masayuki" said first
"Do not say again! malcontent think about his nation did the same thing in history."
and apologized, saying. but he says, "I remain my opinion in the politician."

and education minister"Husio Masayuki," said second
"If Invasion were, Victim people thought about their problem. At that time, Whoever made Korea into a colony, so Japan's invasion was not perfectly true. Victim nation had blame and trouble," and he was fired.

and "Husio Masayuki," said third in 文藝春秋
"at that time, Japan's politic was the same imperialism with Western Power. But, it's unfair that only japan was critisize. Korea was inability and weak. the half responsibility of "unhappy history between Korea and Japan" was Korean's."

in 1995, Watanabe Michio, past diplomatic minister, said
"Japan controlled Korea. But there was not colonization in San Francisco's agreement, so Annex was lawful. It was not forced. If people call that, [Colonization], [Invasion war], It makes many prob.lems"

In 1996, the general affairs department minister "Eto Takami" said,
"at that time, Japan's invasion was bad. But I did a good thing. Japanese did not think that Korean were Colony people. and We did not steal cultural assets of Korea, china(****, Too many cultural assets were stolen and robbed) like England, France."
and In Off, the record "Murayama's apologizing was not true."

in Obuchi ministry, Japan agriculture minister "中川昭一" said
" Forced Sex slaves were not true."

In 小泉純一郞(Koizumi Junichiro)ministry, Japan education minister "Nakayama" said
"In the new textbook, Reducing "從軍慰安婦, sex slave", "Forced going together" was Good thing."

How do you think? Can you say, "they are a few people in Japan?"
They were minister, Politician in upper apologizing.
Can you think that true, formal Apologizing?

Despite that absurdity of the Leader of Japan, Korean and Chinese Demand that Japan apologize formal, truly was it too excessive persistency?

Japan is a funny place, I know, the government try to cover up history, but the people must know the fact.

Sorry , I have just latched on to this thread, but everybody always seems to miss the point, HISTORY is in the past, for example, I am english and we are supposed to hate the germans, but germany has paid the price for its crimes, give it up! they are still made to pay financially by israel, america has paid the price for hiroshima etc, and so on and so forth, I have been showing around japanese visitors and they have seen an exhibition by war veterans, and these people have been visually uncomfortable with what was in front of them, even though none of it was any of their damm fault, so lets stop making future generations pay for the mistakes of their ancestors. It's History!
leave it at that.

Japanese can freely go to libraries and use the internet or any other form of communication to acquire all the information available about this and anything else.
The Japanese government allows it because Japan is a democracy.

However, the People's republic of China has got "The Great Firewall of China" which prevents its citizens from acquiring all possible information about things.

Here is a part of an article:

The Great Firewall of China

Beijing Developing Electronic Chains to Enslave Its People

For nearly a thousand years the Great Wall of China protected the Asian empire from foreign invasion. Today, red China is installing a great "firewall," hoping to stem the tide of foreign ideas from invading the authoritarian one-party state.

Despite claims to be an open society, China has an extraordinary fear of free information. For example, when President George Bush recently visited the Shanghai economic conference inside China, the communist government removed blocks on the Web sites of several U.S. news services.

Immediately after President Bush left Shanghai, the paranoid red forces quickly re-imposed the Internet blocks. Today, ordinary Chinese citizen cannot indulge in reading the perverted online views of CNN or the Washington Post.

Chinese authorities have shut down more than 17,000 Internet cafes since April 2001. The Internet cafes were guilty of allowing Chinese citizens to surf without special blocking software required by the central government. In addition, the Chinese authorities ordered another 28,000 cafes to install special monitoring software, allowing the local police to watch the Internet browsing of customers.

The Case of Huang Qi

Chinese information oppression often goes much farther than simply shutting down illegal Internet web browsing. In June 2000, Huang Qi, a computer engineer from Chengdu, was arrested for putting up an online missing persons search website.

Huang ran afoul of the communist authorities when he assisted in the return of seven girls abducted from their homes by a slave-trading gang. Unfortunately for Huang, the gangsters had connections of their own inside the hierarchy of the local red government.

The red police confiscated Huang's computer equipment and shut down his website. Communist authorities later charged that Huang was guilty of "organizing national separatism, destroying national unity" and "subverting the socialist system."

"The following night, June 6, I was taken to a detention center, where the authorities assigned a fellow inmate to monitor me," Huang wrote in a letter recently smuggled out of jail.

"The inmate ordered me to sleep next to the urinal. My head rested only 60 centimeters from the genitals of inmates as they relieved themselves, drenching me in their urine," wrote Huang.

"Every night, I was put in heavy shackles and tasted urine as my head rested near the urinal. ... If I put myself in danger to rescue seven missing girls from the countryside, help over 2,000 families reunite, sell all my belongings to start a missing persons search service to help people and make it possible for thousands of people to air their grievances, please tell me how this can be considered as attempting to subvert the government?"

In August 2001, Huang was tried in a closed court. No verdict or sentence has ever been announced. A government official told Huang's wife, "After your husband is sentenced, don't expect your son to go to school or to have any future."

To armourer. If you can't envisage the histories, how do you face the future? The affair of the mistake doesn't take place again. The Chinese people are not to aim at the Japanese people, but did not adopt the right attitude to Japan on the historical problem. The problem is that Japan has no right attitude to the history yet and that Japanese prime ministers continue to visit the Yasukuni Shrine, dedicated to class-A war criminals, annually. Another issue is that Japanese history books used in schools do not mention atrocities committed in WWII (or skip WWII altogether). This is in sharp contrast to the situation in Germany, where children learn exactly (and maybe with greater emphasis than in other European countries) the horrors committed by the Nazi.
To Eisuke.I'm an ordinary Chinese citizen, You say that the Chinese government is a red regime, explaining that your thinking way still stays around WWII apparently, the development of the democracy needs a process, not social turbulent discomfort. I can indulge in reading the online views of CNN or the Washington Post. We need exchanges, removing the prejudice

Today CNN front-page news: Saddam sees new president's election

I think it is good to honour those who died in the war. However, it is bad to honour war criminals.
The 14 leaders convicted as war criminals by an Allied tribunal after Japan's defeat should be taken out of Yasukuni Shrine in my opinion.
I agree that the school history textbooks should be more detailed about the bad things Japan did in ww2.

The election of the Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani as Iraq's president of Iraq only came after the USA destroyed the regime of Saddam. If the USA never did anything then democracy likely would not be in Iraq.
I don't think the CCP will become democratic by itself if it is given more time to rule as the only party available in the PRC. Normal relations between Japan and the PRC can only be created and established after China's government has become democratic.

"Protesters attack Japan embassy

Anti-Japanese demonstrators in Beijing, China
Protesters shouted slogans and burned a Japanese flag
Stone-throwing protesters have smashed windows at the Japanese embassy in the Chinese capital, Beijing, during a big rally against Japan's war-time past.

Japanese-owned businesses also came under attack during the march, which thousands of protesters joined.

The protests come less than a week after China criticised Japan for approving new school books which it says gloss over Japanese atrocities.

Protests on this scale are very rare in China's tightly regulated capital.

Correspondents say the fact that Saturday's demonstration took place signals tacit acceptance, if not approval, by the authorities.

The protest is the largest in Beijing since 1999 when thousands marched on the US embassy after Nato planes bombed China's embassy in Belgrade during the Kosovo war.

Japan's embassy in Beijing issued a warning to its nationals to avoid the protests and security were stepped up near the building. "

Beijing Stirs up Anti-Japan Sentiment to Avert Attention and Fend Off Risks

By Zeng Zhiyuan
Central News Agency
Apr 07, 2005

NEW YORK - Another wave of anti-Japan sentiment swept China recently. This time, it was to block Japan from becoming a permanent member of the United Nations' Security Council. Lin Baohua, a political commentator in New York, said on April 3 that Beijing authorities have stirred up anti-Japan sentiment for domestic reasons. This was to alleviate internal distress, from the "Resignations from the Chinese Communist Party" Movement and the Anti-Secession Law, by diverting the public's focus to the anti-Japan sentiment.

Referring to a statement from Wu Dawei, China's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, on April 1, that states, "China doesn't want to see a breakup of the United Nations." Lin said that China is so determined to hinder Japan from obtaining a membership in the UN's Security Council even though it may lead to a breakup of the UN.

A lot of news reports in China have created the idea that the whole world is against Japan's quest for membership in the Security Council. "The only purpose for this kind of news manipulation is certainly to strengthen the anti-Japan sentiments among the Chinese," Lin commented.

According to Lin's analysis, there has been deterioration in the Sino-Japan relationship. However, he believes it is not caused by the disputes over territory as China has been staying reconciliatory about the territory disputes with other neighbors. What really displeases China is the US-Japan Security Treaty, which treats the Taiwan Strait as a strategic target. As revenge, China simply wants to teach Japan a lesson. Lin commented, "This has been the style of the Chinese rogue regime consistently- bullying the weak and fearing the strong."

He emphasized that China's instigation of anti-Japan sentiment, at present, is driven by domestic affairs with Taiwan. They want to win more support from the general public toward the Anti-Secession Law. China tries to bundle Japan and Taiwan together to stimulate the spirit of "sharing the same hatred and fighting against a common enemy."

China's maneuver also has something to do with the torments caused by the recent movements such as the "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party," "Say Goodbye to the Chinese Communist Party" and "Resignations from the Party." These activities have been perplexing Beijing ever since they were initiated by news media. Under such circumstances, a diversion of the public attention to the anti-Japan sentiment can relieve the difficulties the regime has to deal with.

As a chinese who has been educated in someway'nationalist and autocratic', I just cannot understand why the japanese government think the WII in china just an 'enter military'? Even if we donn't touch the problem of true or false of 'Nanjing Massacre'(i think it's true, but i think many japanese don't think so), we just want know if the japanese really think they are wrong.

In fact, in my opinion most chinese donn't want to get any money from japan for the atonement. Even the chinese government has abandoned the Reparations many years ago.(why there are always someone who claim the anti-japanese movement is provocated by chinese government for raising money from japan. I cann't understand!!!)

You can have a go at the British, we did do some terrible things in the past, but please get your countries right. The victims in South America were mainly caused by Spanish and Portugese colonists, hence Portugeses and Spanish being the main languages there. The Incas and Aztecs were victims of the Spanish. In North America the Native swere not only victims of the British, but also the French, and Spanish and then the Americans. Native in South East asia have been oppressed by the governments of their own countries. The Chinese oppressed and continue to oppress the people of Tibet and various minorities in their own country. People in the middle east have been killing and oppressing each other since man learnt how to stand upright. See the Bible, Koran, Islamic history, Babylonian history, etc.
It is a fact that where a strong people take over the minorities will be oppressed and killed. The British and Americans are not the only bad guys on the planet. Remember Burundi and Rwanda as recent cases. The British and Americans had nothing to do with that mess.

Yeah, it's true, it's stupid to blame people now for errors of their fathers in the past. But people should know history and possibly learn lessons from it.
I met many japanese in London, mostly young people between 20 and 25, and none of them know almost anything about their country history, even recent history, and they ask themselves why other asian people don't like them. I'm sure, but I'll check soon, that many of them don't know anything about Japan's war crimes in Asia during WWII. So they don't like chinese because chinese don't like them.
Knowledge of the past is often a key to understand the present and maybe to see a little bit in the future, sometimes.
I think that the same lesson should be learnt by americans, but also by many europeans.

I don't think the purpose of studying history should be to engender hate in another generation for the past deeds of a different people. It is not about making someone pay for anything. History should be about truth and understanding. There is the old line about those who forget their past are condemned to repeat it. You live, you learn, and you don't forget. You learn your story, and maybe the stories of people around you, or even across the globe, and you have gained something of enormous value. The point shouldn't be just to find the darker chapters of our collective past, but to try to find all of the chapters. It gives us our identity as humans.

You people crazy. Japan say sorry many times and givemuch money to China every year. still China say you Japan never say sorry for sixty years ago.

what ? I not remember 60 years ago most Japanese don't.

Do China say sorry for drug smuggling Chinese in Australia or scummy Chinese doribo in Japan. NO ..........never.

China should shut up. Japan should say F YOU CHINA we no give money no more .

I don't care what happened 60 years ago most young Japanese not interested we only think future.

*sigh* Play nice Masa... Don't make me delete your post again. Comments like those above (and I edited it no less) only stir up hate and resentment without contributing anything in a constructive manner.

I don't plan on participating here; just too..*sigh*
But I appreciate Masa's directness. It's not as chilling as the methodical, and torturous comments. Masa, you seem like a real person. No sarcasm meant.

No, it's definitely not like those who have a real subtle approach to their attacks. Definitely agree with you there.

"But I appreciate Masa's directness."

I guess maybe I shouldn't have edited out the three letters after the "F" in his post...? heh. Seriously though, I have never had a problem with the content of what any of our members says. I am as big a proponent of free speech as you'll likely find. To me, it's all about the delivery and manner of speech used to convey that message, not so much the message itself. If people want to bicker back and forth over who is more guilty of this and that or who got screwed over more by so and so, by all means let them. All I ask is that we try to refrain from using words like "scummy" and "F..." etc. when trying to get our point across.

Obviously, most of our members have no problem with this judging by the numerous eloquently written and well thought out posts that cover any number of sensitive/controversial issues. And because of the very nature of these issues, I think it's important that people try to remain as calm and collected as possible in their postings. I know you feel the same way lex. I just don't want to see things spiral out of control is all, hence my recent policing of threads (most notably Serpico's). I suppose if I just sat back and let the mud fly maybe such inflammatory remarks might not be taken to heart by everyone and dismissed just as easily... but that seems like an awfully slippery slope to me. Anyways, sorry to go off-topic.
