Any favorites? Ones that make you laugh? Ones you find impressive? Or just simply stick in your mind for some reason?

I like the new Pocky commercial. It has what appears to be an O miai (meeting for arranged marriage). The guy is cute, but the chick is not terribily attractive. Strangely, the two can't stop staring at each other, the guy seems smitten.

There's one of those bamboo tubes that catches water, and then dumps it in the water basin when full. Usually the bamboo tube takes a long time to fill up and dump. The camera zoomed in on this and did a time speed up, where in the tube tipped the water out many times, and one could see the time they were staring at each other was very extended. Uncomfortable for the rest in the room I would guess.

Anyways, at least I thought it was funny.

Others were the Boss commercials from about a year ago, wherein a scary looking guy (he's a rock star of some sort) chased the guy holding the Boss coffee.

One other was the Eyeful commercials, the one featuring an older man and his chihuaha.

Post your own.

I like the one with the i thin Pasta, or italian bread one... the small guy, diong the Kapeng kapeng kapeng dance, that one always make me laugh haha!!!! for the rest i dont know that many j/commercials...

I used to like Pepsi-man. The ultimate anti-superhero!
And Mujin-kun. Those darned aliens! I used to have my cel phone ring with "Lalala Mujin-kun Lalala Mujin-kun Lalala"

Ok, this is one of my favourite Japanese ads... I posted it elsewhere sometime ago, but I think it should have a spot here too..... See it HERE!

My wife and I really liked the "Kenta no Bouken" Mastercard commercial.

I didnt take much notice when I was watching TV in Japan, but do they have ad breaks every so often or do they save it up for the end of the programme?
In Korea they will have maybe 15-20 minutes of ads at the end of a programme, and occasionally just one or two ads during the programme (not ad breaks, just 2 whole ads). Only annoying thing, is they always use the same ads every hour. However it does give you enough time to have a quick shower, or run down to the shop, have a cigarette break or what have you.

Haha, I love that commercial. Is it just me, or does that girl with the regular voice ask a question when the subtitles say "Be careful..."?

Ad breaks can last up to maybe five, six minutes, but on most channels, they seem to be two minute breaks every fifteen minutes.

Local companies ads, they're not bad for entertainment value.

My favourite commrecials right now are for the 'fabreeze-esque' product~ is it called, reishini I think...?

"reishini onegai takoyaki tabeta mo..."

the cute little animated mom who plugs her nose at the stinky shoes or stinky dogs and sings the cute jingle. The woman who sings the jingle is in fact I'm told the ex-wife of Riyuichi Sakamoto.

thanks to all the people (that i like/don't hate) who provided info!

I love Japanese tv-commercials!! 😍
So much fun and excellent characters..could watch them as an entertainment for hours! (Anyone got vhs tapes to send me?;))

The Pocky ads are also my favourites, but "town work town work shigoto shigoto.." ( the song stayed in my mind and i was constantly humming to it;)), kirin ads, ads with hiroshi <3, etcetc also.

But the one that really surprised me, was ad about "Jenka". First of all they are playing a traditional finnish song in it (composed by finnish Rauno Lehtinen), they are dancing the traditional finnish dance "letkajenkka" in it, and also the name is taken from the dance: Jenkka -> Jenka.
I had much fun dancing along with the commercial :)

The ones that I remember (not necessarily my favorite) are the Kikkoman ones, and the Morinaga Tofu. The one that always makes me laugh is the Vermont House Curry commercials. I don't know why it makes me laugh everytime I see it, but I guess it's because the family always gets super excited over hot, steamy curry. I dunno, it's hilarious. But it definitely portrays the message "curry is where the heart is", and "curry - bring happiness and laughter to your family at dinner". (wow, i am being super corny)

(you can tell I am super hungry right now, hence why I only mentioned food commercials LOL) :p

I know my mom's favorite commericals feature her favorite Korean actor, Bae Yong Joon.

Haha :D Excellent!! 👍

Lest we forget the DHC water cm w/ one of the Kana sisters (I don't know which is which) and the -WINK- excelent choice of wardrobe.

"oishii".... indeed.

I was surprised when I saw the "Haro-Haro" commercial of Ministop several months ago. All I could remember now was the three bubbly girls eating fruits on shaved ice. "Haro-Haro" is a Filipino dessert (Halo-Halo, literally, "mix-mix")

I remember a suntory commercial where Cro Cop(a popular kickboxer) fights some oversized coffee beans. Oh yeah, anything with Bob Sapp in it always makes me laugh.

Hello there.

Just stumbled across this very interesting forum , I always loved Japan and its culture. Been there quite often. As for the commercials you all should check this one : http://dir.goo.ne.jp/bb/entertainment.html . its loaded with all j-commercials you can think of. It takes a little getting used how to navigate..

have fun and enjoy those "cheesy" japanese commercials

Otherwise try this http://dir.goo.ne.jp/ .. if you are not able reading kanji or katakana , try to "read" your status bar in internet explorer or in Firefox , once you move mouse pointer it displays the normal url references, so its becoming much more easier to "look" for japanese-commercial indexes , and the collection is huge and elaborate. Please make sure your character decoding in your browser is set to "Japanese Shift-JIS".

tip: Once you have navigated to http://dir.goo.ne.jp punch in the searchbox the word "cm" and click on the white search button right next to it ... you will get an endless list of all url with j-commercials.
