We have a pair of vases from Tanzan, Kyoto , Japan . This is a copy of the signature from the base of a similar item. Not sure which way up. Can anyone assist with deciphering the signature please or advise a good museum website to find more information about vases made in Tanzan Japan? Kind regards, Clare

The signature looks like 丹正 (Tansei) to me. When I look online for this name, I can't find any hits. It could be from a potter named Tansei from from the Tanzan kiln. Well, from what I can see online, it looks like Tanzan was a kiln/pottery with many potters, and it wouldn't be unusual for a potter to "borrow" a character from the kiln to use as his art name.
