Japanese Secondary Education in WWII

Hey again, guys!

I'm getting pretty active again the last few weeks.

Anyway, I'd like to ask about the Japanese Secondary Education during WWII. I read somewhere that education in Japan back then started at age 7, so when they graduated from high school, they're around 19-21 years old.

Is this true? How many years of high school? 4? And did boarding schools exist then, esp. in Tokyo? Were the schools back then gender exclusive or were there some mixed? And where the school uniforms (for boys) pretty much the same as back then? Military inspired black uniforms?

I am very complicated..
I am not sure..
elementary school ...6 years...kids entered elementary school at 6 years old
secondaly school in old system ...5years(12~16,17 years old)
after 4 yeras they were permitted to have a entrance examination of high school
high school in old system....3years(form 17~19 years old or 17~24?)
i think this highschool in old system was as same as Today's Unversity?
For example
1st high school was today's Depertment of Education in tokyo university
旧制高等学校 - Wikipedia
imperial University...3years
old highschool was the general education course of imperial university?
