Japanese Major/Masters... Where, and What?

(Not sure if this is the correct forum, but it wasn't translation or direct study of the Japanese language, so I thought it might go in the All Things Japanese forum better. If not please move it, I'm sorry.)

Just a somewhat quick, but very important question for you all on here. Right now I'm planning for a Major in Japanese, possibly a Masters if need be. I'm in California, and the nearest major college here, Sac State only offers a Minor in Japanese with two teachers at the entire college I've looked around the colleges in California and was quite shocked that a Major in Japanese "seems" to be fairly rare.

Now my question is this; Where are some of the colleges you would recomend for a Major in Japanese in California? I have looked into the Jet program a bit as an option afterwards, so I'm aware this might be a good path after a Major in Japanese. I've considered a Masters as I have tutored in the past at community colleges and teaching Japanese does appeal to me a great deal.

If anyone out there had some advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm saving up to head to get my 4 year degree, just not sure where

wow, i could help you out on that prob if only you weren't restricted only to california. i have a book that lists the majors of most of the colleges in the u.s., but it's back in georgia and i won't be able to get the info to you till after august 7th.

Doh Ya, trying to stay in California.

I'm sorry to say, but maybe California isn't the best place. I think that the best place to look would probably be in either San Francisco or L.A., but that's just my guess. Outside of CA, Washington University has a really good Japanese program, from what I understand, and I think that Oregon U's is also pretty good. Why do you want to stay in Cali? Is it because of out of state tuition?

Mainly, because of the weather and it is the state I have (mostly) always lived in and know fairly well I guess. All my friends and family are here.

I do however, have an uncle in Washington. I'll take a look at Washington's site. Thanks for the tip.


(Edit: Looked at the site, and I'm VERY impressed! Looks like their extremely well fleshed out in that department, and they even have Chinese and Korean if I feel like an off shoot minor. Any one here take their program or go to WU?)
