Japanese EV (not AV) prevailing

In the race to develop electric vehicles, more and more carmakers are starting to form industry alliances to spread investment risk and take advantage of firms that specialize in batteries and electronic propulsion technology. We've seen Toyota partner with Panasonic, Volkswagen turn to Sanyo (now a part of Panasonic), and now new reports claim France's PSA Peugeot-Citroen will tie up with Mitsubishi for the supply of advanced battery technology for its future electric vehicles.
Mitsubishi already supplies the French auto group with re-skinned versions of its Outlander SUV, and according to the Nikkei business daily the Japanese carmaker could soon be supplying whole electric vehicles and battery technology.

Peugeot and Citroen will also benefit from Mitsubishi's technology relating to the conversion of electricity into drive power and the prevention of batteries from overheating.

Mitsubishi is a leader in the development of all-electric vehicles. The carmaker will launch its first all-electric vehicle by mid-2010 in Japan with the first European sales expected to start in the following year. The car will be based on the current i car (pictured), which is sold in Japan with a 0.7L MIVEC three-cylinder engine. The electric version, currently undergoing testing in the UK, will sport a lithium-ion battery under the passenger seat, which will power an electric motor positioned in the rear of the car.

Thus, Japan will become an exporter of energy soon, while Japan does not produce any piece of petrolem.
