Many people on social media talk about a new TV ad by Ito En Ltd. for their "Oi Ocha catechin green tea" drink. What's so special about it? Well, it features a model that is not a real person but a creation of AI. This is the first time in Japan that AI has been used to make a model for a TV commercial. Some of the reactions on social media are: "I thought this was a famous person, but it turned out to be AI," and "Will AI take over the jobs of actors and models?"

According to AI model Inc., which provided the AI service, it is the first TV ad in Japan using an AI performer. The theme of the commercial is "The time to change the future is now!" with the storyline being that a woman starts drinking catechin green tea so that she can live healthily in the future. The AI entertainer's age in the commercial changes and she is depicted skipping around, drinking the tea and smiling. Ito En said it judged using AI would be the best way to depict how the appearance of someone would change 30 years in the future, and decided to use the AI service. "We weren't intending to create a commercial personality with AI," a company official explained. The artificial character was produced by having AI learn a large number of faces, after which designers and others made minor changes.
