J-Pop in general

Now I'm a fan of metal (not gonna call my self a metalhead cause most metalhead's I know are elitists who only listen to death metal and claim all other genres, especially ones with popular artists, are fake and talentless) and really hate the modern western pop music which is R and B, Hip Hop and boy bands because a) They can't sing without autotune, b) they are studio fed their lyrics, c) most of it is who has the most money, nicest girls, and who can swear the most to impress the kids, and d) they re-use melodies and lyrics from older songs.
Though one of the reasons why I like J-Pop is that it seems like there is no use of auto tune at all. Out of all the artists I've listened to, they sound the exact same live as the do in studio.

So does Japan not really care for autotune?

And I'm guessing most artists write their own lyrics and music, besides the big groups that seem studio fed like Watarirouka Hashiritai 7, though they are good live and the atmosphere makes my feel happy and want to sing along.

Just to clarify, most J-Pop singers write their music and that group and groups like those usually don't?

I'm not yet so sure with the groups but I'm pretty sure that solo artist write their own songs. My favorite singer is Miwa, and I really like her so much. You are very correct when you've said that they don't use any editings with their voices as when you heard Miwa sing live, it is no different hearing her on her recordings. Nothing's change actually, you can misheard some of her videos as recordings well in fact its live. Another, we are pretty much the same, why? I effin hate R and B. Never and forever. I will not appreciate these R and B songs.

Haha yeah. I'm not really a fan of any popular music that has been made after around 1990, because it's all studios feeding them lyrics and fixing their voices so they can sing better... and even the lyrics are terrible. That's why I've turned to the Japanese music industry; though the idol groups and artists like that still seem studio fed.. but they work hard and sing well!

Oh and also, is it true that a lot of J-Pop artists stop making music when they get "old" (in their 30s)? I heard that this is what happens to the big idol groups but I'm not sure if it's with most though I hope not.I really wanna see YUI live when I come to Japan in 5-6 years!

Japan literally dont use auto tune. People there tend to respect art more than anyone, and staying true to your performances is beyond important. Also, all japanese singers are blessed with high vocal chords, so as the majority of japanese. That's why their lives and recordings are the same and auto tune has no purpose.

Perfume has to be one of the most heavily auto-tuned groups in Japan.

Ah My bad, what i meant was that japanese can actually sing and the use of autotune is not used to cover up their voices or sth. Many western singers soind horrendous live comparing to recording and it's because of autotune. Im sure Perfume members sound great withkut autotune too and it's just their style to integrate them into their songs
