Israeli teens murdered

You did say the majority of Jews, that's exactly my point.

If you mean Israelis, or "Jews in Palestine" or whatever you want to call a specific group (I don't care what you call the group, it makes absolutely no difference to me), I'm encouraging you to say what you mean.

Otherwise you include vast amounts of people who have nothing to do with it.

Gentlemen, your efforts to discuss a highly controversial and emotional issue are highly appreciated! Let's keep things factual and free of expletives.

Thank you! Alfi shukran! Toda!

Certainly, and I'll bow out of the discussion, I was just trying to note a minor point which I don't think is as important as the great conversation Alec and Hezam were having.

It was not meant to be offensive, merely helpful, but apparently it was not understood as helpful. For whatever reason.

As to the question of whether Israel has a right to exist, it was created by U.N. mandate, so I would have to say yes. The U.N. is not a perfect system, but it's the best we have.

What Israel does not have the right to, however, are its current borders. Israel's current borders are the product of various land grabs done during various wars.

Israel's neighbors have done themselves a big disservice by attacking Israel in the 60's and 70's. Although there was no way to know it at the time, the best thing they could have done is to accept Israel politically and just boycott them in other ways, perhaps economically.

That might still be a valid strategy.

We'll never know until at minimum the current cycle is broken.

Wikipedia said:
Since 1964, Arab countries, concerned over Israeli plans to divert waters of the Jordan River into the coastal plain,[114] had been trying to divert the headwaters to deprive Israel of water resources, provoking tensions between Israel on the one hand, and Syria and Lebanon on the other.

According to the United Nations, since the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip in 1967, disputes over Palestinian water rights has been one of the most difficult conflicts to resolve through negotiations. Water resources have been confiscated for Israeli settlements in the Ghor, Palestinian pumps on the Jordan River destroyed or confiscated, and Palestinians prevented from using water from the Jordan River system or drilling new irrigation wells. However, Israel provided fresh water and allowed wells for irrigation at the Jewish settlements in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. A final agreement over water rights has been postponed until final status arrangement negotiations between the two sides.[
Here's a major stumbling block: water.

Maybe water rights could be administered by a U.N. agency similar to the United States Bureau of Reclamation?

Thanks for info, Does it change the reality that most of Jews support israel ?

The American Jewish lobby group is extremely strong. I can't speak for Jews worldwide or even on an individual basis, but this "provincial" interest group wields enormous power in USA.

i know for sure that your judgement is based on 'Best possible solution' and i also know that you don't know what kind of government Arab had/have since the collapse of Ottoman Caliphate, if you knew what has been done to the Middle east by colonization and by the Arab governments since the collapse of Ottoman Caliphate you will be shocked and you will wonder how the people in the M.E are still standing and dealing with it everyday.

The Middle East has been through too much pain and conspiracies, a hundred year from the fall of Justice in this world, It's bcame the toughest place to live in as human.
To Understand the Middle East it needs years of studies and research from reliable sources.
You said what you think is best and i really admire your honesty and bravery, Even if i disagree with some of what you said but i believe you will understand someday (hopefully sooner) what the U.N has done to the Middle East and how the U.N react when Muslims get slaughtered in anywhere of the world.

:)

I know a little bit. Not much, but enough to know that to anyone actually living in the Middle East, I must sound extremely naive.

Actually, despite all the violence and misery, I think that now might be a good time in terms of the future. Since the Cold War is over, now is a time where perhaps some of the old underlying conflicts in the region can be resolved...or at least looked at. As part of that, I truly think it is time to rethink the region's borders. I don't think anyone should really care about the current borders unless you're in power anyway, since the borders are merely a byproduct of colonialism anyway.

Netanyahu? F'geddaboutit. : - ) Maybe the next guy (or woman).

You're right, of course.

But that's why it's my private utopia, where people try to solve problems by cooperation and construction rather than violence and dysfunction.

how the U.N react when Muslims get slaughtered in anywhere of the world.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the real problem is the Security Council, and not the General Assembly.

But you're right. Too many people die, and no one seems to care.

The question is : Will israel accept a final treaty ?
An old map has been shared bu many israelis on social websites, It's the Great Israel :

820141153137-1.webp

The israelis want all Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, part of Egypt, Syria, part of iraq, part of Saudi Arabia. This is what they believe no matter what treaty the U.N or Arab or anyone offer.
It's been same game since 1948.

When Arab/Muslim person hear Security Council or General Assembly or U.N it doesn't make any difference to him because they are against him or at least do not give a dam about him.
You might have heard of what happened last year and this year in Burma, Sri Lanka, East Turkistan, Central Africa, Mali, Nigeria, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, And Gaza. None of those organizations you mentioned did anything to the civilians, But in some parts these organizations took the opposite side.
How many times did Muslims & Arab (people) asked the U.N, Security Council, General Assembly , International Court of Justice to help them but they got nothing, All they hear is War on Terrorism again and again and again.
i assure you that after this Israeli attack there will be a generation that doesn't believe in peace at all, i personally lost all hope in the "Free World".
i hope i didn't say too much but thanks for taking time to read my posts, i really appreciate it.

I hope this map is nothing more than wishful thinking on the part of those who share this map. It's astonishingly unrealistic, not to mention belligerent! You pull out a map like that, and it's no wonder that your neighbors don't like you!

The problem with the "Free World" is that they don't really care about the people on the ground. What they really care about is their own "interests". That's why I've said in the past that I believe the only real lasting solution to all these problems has to come from the people who are most affected by the outcome.

By the "Free World", I mean the elected officials of those countries. I think that a good number of individuals do care, but they don't pull the strings of power.

i was thinking the same way, But last month revealed the mystery, It was like a bomb exploded on my head, Egypt & Jordan are already considered israel allies, After the syrian revolution started it exposed the Syrian regime, He is a loyal ally too and Lebanon as well, Iraq is already an Ally because of the Anglo-American invasion But this month two Arab nations have been exposed, one of them is part of the map and it complete the David Kingdom, It's not a direct controll of the borders but by ally systems.
Gaza war started with Arab permission & support.

i swear that i still remember your words, that was in the beggining of the Tunisian revolution when i posted "What to do?" thread, You was/are right, all these problems has to come from the people who are most affected by the outcome.

i was going to edit my previous post but you said it all, i still have hope in the good people who know the details (not who blindly support me), The only thing that Arab/Muslims want is not support but the good people to know the truth, It's the only thing i wish good people to know.

Next time I'll write about that map and other things spread around the Internet.

The conversation between Hezam and WonkoTheSane has been an interesting branch of the topic, this stuff about discerning between Jews and Israelis. Of course most Jews don't have an Israeli passport unless they happen to be Israelis living in Israel, and most have never set foot on Israeli or mideast soil. Hezam, you might have got that idea because it is easier for Jews to get into Israel if they have proof of heritage & have met a few other requirements. ( Birthright Israel - Wikipedia )

When I was growing up, I heard more than one person wonder aloud if Jews would be loyal to the U.S. or Israel should the two nations become enemies. I don't doubt that the same suspicion is voiced in France, Italy, Denmark, Morocco, wherever. Even though Israel itself has protesters and dissenters and a leftist news source like Ha'aretz, and the world has Finkelstein or Miko Peled, it's not enough to stop people from eyeing Jews with suspicion. After all, they were a people without a nation for so long, and now there's a (quasi)Jewish nation. Why wouldn't they be biased toward it?

Well of course that suspicion is based on a kernel of truth. Many or even most Jews perhaps do have a bias toward wanting to preserve Israel. The problem is when it gets twisted into the notion that Jews would be disloyal to the country in which they have chosen to reside, much like the backstabbing myth propagated after Jews fought loyally for Germany in World War I. ( Stab-in-the-back myth - Wikipedia ).

There's a recent article in Reuters about a rise in "antisemitic events" in Britain. Not just legit anti-Gaza-war protests or legit anti-Israeli protests, but "racist intimidation and violence" says the piece. If you look at the 6 comments beneath, the first guys says, well of course. The Jewish community in the UK is supporting Israel, so what do they expect. (my paraphrase) The 6th commenter suggests that most people agree with the 1st, although he continues about a boycott of Israel, not seeming to grasp that the article states how the signs at the protests have "been distinctly anti-Jewish." ( Anti-Semitic incidents rise in Britain as Gaza conflict rages | Reuters )

Thus, it is important for Westerners to get it straight when they're talking about Jews or Israelis, and even more important to not attack Jews around the world while simultaneously calling for an end to attacks on innocent Palestinian bystanders. Hypocrisy abounds.

As for the Arab world, I don't get to hear from the few moderates out there very often, and I would hazard a guess that most of them cannot even imagine that there is a multitude of Wonkos out there who are either neutral or indifferent.

If it's not actual control but just allies, where is the problem? What is the threat then? I mean, from what I can tell, Israel seems to stay out of Egyptian affairs except when concerning Gaza. When Israel goes to war, I don't see Egyptian soldiers fighting alongside them. (I don't know enough about the others to offer any comment.)

You think about it, and European borders were decided by the Europeans. The borders of North America at least were decided by the North Americans. Many Asian borders were decided by the Asians. All of these places have relative stability. Some borders are still in dispute, and how the current borders have come about was not always pleasant, but for the most part they were not imposed upon the locals from afar (Treatment of aboriginal people is a separate issue that is no less tragic.)

This makes me think of the Japanese internment camps in USA during WW2.

Guilt by association.

alecgraham, i was confused because Arab jews have two passports, Israeli and American or European, So when they visit their homelands they use the American/European passports to keep themselves safe, Thanks for clearify.

Mikawa san, :

The problem is that those regimes are keeping Arab 1) poor 2) ignorants 3) Defensless 4) Uneducated as westeners 5) Not Free.
Arab people are experiments samples for weapons and drugs, Those dictators won't let Arab live like European/American people, They are meant to be guards for oil and other resources and that's a serious problem, No life with those dictators.

Before the three nations pulled out they installed loyal governments....

Notice I didn't mention Africa or the Middle East. Also, I'm not too sure about Central and South America.
I've seen maps where North Africa is part of the Middle East. I guess I unconsciously associate them together, too, when it comes to political discussion.

>.< my eyes are rolling, i thought you said North Africa ! Lol

I agree with all your points, but I don't see how this is related to Israel. The only common denomination I can think of is U.S. support for the governments you mention.

Ah, I see. Thank you.

some informations have been leaked, although it's needless but to put some light on how it's related to israel, In the begining of Arab Spring the Arab dictators freaked out and asked the U.S and Europe to help stop people so the U.S (As usual) agreed under one condition which is The ultimate support from Arab dictators to israel or they will be left to their people to do whatever they want with them (The condition in Assad's case is to hand his Chemical weapons and stay on rule).
So the Arab leaders agreed and that's why they are with israel against Gaza now, Of course neither israel nor the U.S want Arab to get better life. Very sad and complex.

I can understand why Hezam is upset about that instagram post by one David Ovadia, purporting to be an IDF soldier who purposely shot at children and is proud of it. Now there's the map of "Greater Israel" floating around and Hezam, while just a page or two back you stated your support for the "destruction of Israel", and yet some map by your Israeli counterpart (if it even is an Israeli who concocted this. Could be an American Jew. Could be a Scotsman. Could be an Egyptian) has you up in arms.

I could collect and post tit-for-tat videos or stories for shock value. I mean Aziz Salha, his hands bathed in blood from the Ramallah lynching of young soldiers comes to mind. That's from 2000. If only I could read Arabic, imagine what shocking posts and maps I could turn up on views of this conflict when even you, a genuinely nice man and independent thinker wouldn't mind Israel being destroyed and is willing to say so in English. Some of them would be genuine, and others could be concocted and spread by religious Jewish zealots.

I prefer context, background and the big picture.

The history of zionism in the 19th century and early 1900s is fascinating. I don't know about you guys, but my eyes glaze over when I see a forum post or even a single paragraph that's too long, so I can't type everything I want to type. (If only I could draw like naha def I'd make a comic!).

At least twice, it has been stated in this thread that Jews came in and burned Arab orchards, and it is a common belief that the Jews mostly stole Palestinian land. I'm not saying my latest source is the end-all be-all, but at least he (Lozowick) is well versed on the other side of things and often quotes writer Edward Said, whom he calls "perhaps the most eloquent of Palestinian spokesmen."

Nowadays when we hear the word settlements, we hear about the illegal ones in the news. Once upon a time, the goal of zionism was to create settlements in the traditional birthplace of the Jews, but for decades they did so without any hope of having a sovereign nation. They just wanted a homeland, a place of sanctuary far from Russian pogroms, Polish discrimination and Ukranian violence. This was ages before Hitler. Palestinians often complain that recent Jewish settlers are "not even from here, they're from Europe."* Well, yes. And guess why they left?

Did you know that Herzl, the father of zionism, once converted a mass of Jews to Christianity? He knew nothing about Jewish tradition or Judiasm! Did you know that initially the British offered the Jews land in Uganda? I believe it was the more religious Russians who insisted that Israel be in, well...Israel.

The Turks owned most of the land that Jews would eventually settle in, but they didn't want Jews to settle there, period. The British "had no objections, but it was up to the Jews to acquire the land on their own." They wanted consecutive tracts of land but the good stuff was taken and not for sale, so they did buy a lot of "malarial infested swampland." A lot of Jews died not from Arab attacks, but just by succumbing to disease or the light and heat of the desert, or by simply failing to "wrench a living from the soil."

As you can imagine, those who survived were some of the toughest & most determined people on the planet. Perhaps that's why even I find the ones I meet in person to be somewhat bristly and abrasive in conversation.

But there were Arab attacks and lots of them. In many places, the Palestinians decided early on to stop Jewish settlement by force. This included "ransacking homes, raping women and demolishing synagogues."

Jump to 1929 when mass violence was preceded by Arabs dropping stones and refuse from the Temple Mount onto Jews praying below, accompanies by malicious propaganda inciting
Muslims to protect their holy places from the Jews who were scheming to occupy (The Temple Mount) and desecrate it;
for good measure they threw in a description of the Jews as rapists and murderers of infants.

He goes on to say that unsuprisingly, thousands of Muslims responded to the call and proceeded to mass murder Jews.
* * *

How do people get incited now? By modified maps, bloody youtube videos, instagram and Twitter. How much of this is news? How much of this is the big picture.

Well, I've done it. I've composed a too-lengthy post albeit with spaces. : - )
Quotes are from Lozowick's 'Right to Exist' ('03). Paraphrasing and "I" is mine/me, & *the one quote from Palestinians is from TV, which I saw firsthand.

I see other posts have come in while I was typing. Ok, no more Lozowick excerpts today.

If this is true, it wouldn't surprise me much. Remember how the U.S. used to support Hussein in Iraq (because he was useful for countering Iran)...or Mubarak in Egypt...King Hussein in Jordan...

Nonetheless, do you have any links where I could find further information? This is something I'd like to learn more about.
