no comment on that.

I think this thread will be closed in a few posts...cause either way, it always ends up being a mess.

hehe, don't be so sure

the "why are you not muslim" thread went ballistic on like the second page.. it was allowed to go for more pages than I care to count

Twisted, not all religions Proselytize... Judaism, Buddhism, Hindu, and probably a bunch more don't rely on preaching for new converts. In the case of Judaism and Hindu I think most of those followers are born into it. Buddhists are either born into it or stumble upon it at some point in their lives.

Christianity and Islam both rely heavily on new converts. In some places in India things have gotten to the point where some beggars will convert to Christianity because the Christians will give them money and then a couple of weeks later will convert to Islam for the same reason. Then they move on to another town and another set of missionaries.

RockLee, I don't think anyone is being too caustic or mean. I see no reason to lock the thread yet.

I read most of the first posts on this thread then I jumped to the last one.

I have to agree that this thread might be closed anytime

I am a muslim myself, and sadly I have to admit that I have a long way to go to become a good muslim. I like my religion, and I see nothing wrong with it.

Unfortunately the world has gotten the wrong picture of Islam, and I can't see how it will ever change Unless people are willing to be open minded.

Ok, I'll buy it, and I'll loosen up.

I still have a question though... why is islam a beacon of light in Japan?
Feels like this hasn't been touched in the thread with a name that implies it should be thoroughly explained.

I'm still waiting to hear about the 200,000 Japanese Muslims in Tokyo. Details don't seem to be forthcoming.

Saithan, the western news media generally only shows the kinds of muslims that westerners are afraid of - the Saudis, the Taleban, the Iranians, etc. etc. Rarely do we get to see the millions of "regular" muslims who are actually decent people. That's why we're scared of you and why we have a warped image. We need more muslims to show us that they're really good guys.

muslims going about their business is not news-worthy.
muslims decapetating infidels and shooting rounds into the air with kalashnikovs or duct-taping firecrackers to themselves and exploding inside a diner (killing 4, injuring 23!) is.

Made up facts (un-knowledge) can be hard to explain.

hmmm. there seems to be alot of controversy over this. Oh and let me start with Twisted Mac's post, this was not made up. Ignorant people say things like that I dont think your ignorant so please dont deny facts that I've searched through.

We dont have missionaries like christians do, no one has to convert by force. In Islam it is up to them weither to convert, forcing to convert puts a gap in their mind of faith and will cause confusion.

Christian missionaries, at least nowadays, don't force people to convert either.

And I'm pretty sure that Muslims DO have missionaries, in fact, this link from an Islamic web-site talks a lot about Islamic missionairies. You may have to scroll down a bit to get to the question and answer part about missionaries. Google has a LOT more links about muslim missionaries as well.

As for the 200,000 muslims in Tokyo, you apparently have done some research into this. Please provide us with the details...

I saw a good interview with the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens. He seemed really cool-- I'd break bread with him any time. (except that he has been banned from the US.

The media here generally concentrate only on scary people and beautiful people. If you're not scary or beautiful you don't get your 15 minutes of fame.

"There is no reliable estimate on the Japanese Muslim population. Claims of thirty thousand are without doubt an exaggeration. Some claim that there are only a few hundred. This probably amounts to the number of Muslims openly practicing Islam. Asked to give an estimate on the actual number of Muslims in Japan, Abu Bakr Morimoto replied, "To say frankly, only one thousand. In the broadest sense, I mean, if we do not exclude those who became Muslims for the sake of, say marriage, and do not practice then the number would be a few thousands."

This is an excerp from the first link.

From the first link:

Claims of thirty thousand are without doubt an exaggeration.

I found no figures in your second link.

that proposturas. you just have to search through the articles.

I have read somewhere else that there has been an increase in muslim population after 1980. Thats where the additional 100,000

Muslims in Japan

I don't know how many Muslims there are in Japan and I doubt anyone will know for sure for a while yet. But I do know that when you convert to Islam no other Muslim may doubt your faith, even if you aren't as devot as a good Muslim, who fullfils the five pillars (It may be called something else) of Islam.

I wish I could remember where I read that about 0,2% of Japan's population were Muslims, and please don't forget that there are foreigners in Japan, who are Muslims as well. So it is most likely that there could be more than a couple of thousand Muslims in Japan.

It might also be a good idea to take into consideration that different Muslim countries has invested in the building of Mosque and that Ramadan may be a good time of the year to count how many Muslims there are, just a suggestion though

the majority could be foreigners but there are a few thousand japanese converts.
The number of a 100,000 was a poll from 1980; And I'm sure it even surpassed 200,000.

And all of them were in Tokyo at the same march on the same day? I'm really impressed.

so, your own estimate. I call upon clause 1:1 of un-knowledge. (often refered to as the "male animal feces-clause").

I am greatly interested in knowing how you came to the conclusion of believers being doubled since then though.

heh. I like the difference in how people look at things. look at this statement:
islam.org said:
alarming rate of atheism as high as 85%.
I see that as an encouraging rate of believers as low as 15%!

time for spreading religion takes time obviously, I can't make a correct estimate because there's not enough sources, the things I said were from the information I saw fit to post.

so basically, for all you know they could have boomed and increased ten-fold or just be a faded trend with only a few tens of thousands left?

That's exactly what I meant by the statement that your words were not supported by facts.

Take heart, even if we can't verify the exact number. It only takes one to be a beacon of light.

My words were supported be facts' I just needed more sources....

at least sabro has an open mind...

This topic can be closed for discussion; or we can keep talking about...

Weird...
We got from Islam in Japan to Dubya to Islam and then to Arafat dying. Weird.
