Yes, we do still have some vkei bands, but they don't get as much attention as they used to. Its pretty rare to find people who know about vkei now a days, and its rarer to find a vkei band that still gets a good amount of views. So, is it possible it might be dying out? Tell me your opinion on it!

What is "vkei"?

A term to used to describe a certain aesthetic in Japanese Rock. I don't know how to describe it well but we usually use it with bands that have a very unique and even androgynous style in Jrock. Bands such as Dir En Gray, The Gazette, and Malice Mizer are a good example of that.

Visual kei used to be the trend, but now those trend-setters have become middle aged and have turned into the "establishment" against which the younger generation wants to rebel. Gackt is such a part of the establishment that he's now shilling real estate in Malaysia. Its not exactly the kind of "cool" that young kids aspire to.
(Said with some shade, because I will never be as cool as Gackt.)

I'd like to see more of this rebellion that you speak of in Japan!

How much do you know about 1960s Japan? コザ暴動? 安保闘争? 全学共闘会議?
