Is there any truth to this rumor about modern Zen temples?

I remember hearing or reading somewhere that Zen in Japan today has generally lost the plot, and good masters/temples are very hard to come by, especially those that are part of the Rinzai sect.

Is this true? Or with a decent amount of effort is it quite possible to find one?

Anyone care to share their experiences of Buddhism in Japan?
