In Japanese culture, is the lily associated only with sexual purity or just purity in general?

I read somewhere that lilies, mainly white ones refer to purity in a japanese context and can be used for that in like flower meaning and I was wonder, is this referring to sexual purity or purity in general. I was writing a short story and wanted to know which it represented

Is there a huge difference between "purity" and "sexual purity"? I mean, doesn't the former imply the latter?

Purity is purity. Purity of thought, spirit, mind, soul, action, intention. "Purity" isn't used exclusively (or even primarily) as a synonym of chastity or virginity, but it may have that connotation.
