If you could take one thing to Japan...

Much like the, "If you could only take one thing with you to a deserted island" game, If you could take only ONE thing with you to Japan, what would it be? Assume basic necessities are taken care of/irrelevant (i.e. food, shelter, clothes, money). I would probably take a video camera.
 
The english language, in the sense that everyone would speak it lol
 
A good digital camera with a lot of memory and batteries. A lot easier to deal with than video, although I would bring both. With the price of flash memory these days you can take thousands of pictures and post them up on Flickr (Get a pro account) or another site like that.
 
I think I would bring my camera with me. I would like to record everything in Japan and make good memories.
 
Industrial strength animal clippers to shave my head with and save me the ￥2500 I would have to pay every 10 days. And btw, I did in fact bring some with me six years ago and they still work like a charm.
 
I would bring my amazing laptop.
 
I really can't think of anything I couldn't get over there that I'd have to bring with me. Perhaps the one thing i wouldn't be able to get so easily is a drivers license so i'd bring an international license. Even if I can't afford a car I'd be able to rent one. There are times when I'd like to just get out of the city and a car is a bit more convenient than a train or bus for reaching those remote areas.

One thing I think I would take with me if I ever visited Japan would be a Digital camera with plenty of memory back-up. I would want to take loads of pictures of the temples, shrines and the countryside and then load them onto this PC when I return to good old Blighty.
 
a human translator(proficient in japanese and english)

sure, i'm studying japanese now, but it's far from fluent. since i'll have money and such, i can buy all i need there, but a human translator is necessary if i want to tour the place on my own with little hiccups.
 
Aren't most of these questions voided by the fact that Japan has many video and still cameras?

You can buy Ban roll-on here. I would bring MORE money!! It's really expensive here. (But perhaps cheaper than London.)

Not only that, but Ban here in Japan only works for about an hour or so...

Give me some Right Guard over that Ban stuff any day!

Is Ban an anti-perspirant or just a deodorant? In Japan there are many deodorants on offer, just nothing to stop your pits sweating in the first place.

I think I'd take something that's not available here at any price. So that would probably be a supply of Right Guard roll on antiperspirant and Branston pickle. Plus possibly orange/(any fuit) squash/cordial (seems to be a uniquely British thing...)

Not very exciting/romantic I know...
 
Ban is an anti-deodorant and it works on my gaijin pits. Roll-on, stick, splash on, whatever...it's the same stuff, don't be a wuss. It lasts all day for me but I work in the office (or maybe I'm naturally sweet smelling ).

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about this too much. Just don't try to plan too much for one day because you'll find it takes twice as long to do things here as it did back home. That's because the system is different. ☝
 
I think I had like 20 sticks of anti-perspirant at one time when I was in Japan. I would buy a lot when I took vacations and it just kept adding up. Also I would tell me folks to send serveral every now and then. I guess I was a little over prepared.

If I am going to live there for a while or if I am just visiting for a couple weeks my list would be similiar.
*As much money as possible
*My MacBook and iPod
*Video and digital camera
*My electronic dictionary
*Small Backpack
*Condoms
