Hello,

I think this barely passes as a "learning Japanese" thread, but I think this is still the best place to put it. A long time ago, I was reading some website or book that was explaining the term 外人, 外国人, and another term. The other term had a meaning of, "foreigner who does not act like a foreigner." i.e., it was a term for foreigners that were seen as totally assimilated in Japan. It seemed like a more endearing term, if I remember the description correctly. Does anyone know the word I am thinking of?

Thank you,
Clark

変な外人 perhaps?

That seems pretty appropriate, but is it an endearing term? Perhaps endearing and 外人 don't go together... Maybe just, 変な外人 is less repulsive than 外人?
