I am looking for some friends to share all the great times I am having here in Japan. I am trying to learn Japanese and I hope that you can help me. I am a native English speaker but I also speak some French. I love traveling and would enjoy finding someone who enjoys traveling in Japan and also abroad. I also enjoy staying active and enjoy training in Jujitsu and boxing.

I ve just hit the 6 month mark here in Japan, and I am feeling a little lonely. I am hoping to make some new friends here (Tochigi prefecture) and around Tokyo. I have lived in Thailand and China and I would love to share my adventure with everyone.

Here is my profile on Friend finder,

take care all

Hi Strosskraft ! Welcome To The Forum !!

There are quite a few members living in Japan(non-Japanese) , but it sounds like most of them work hard with little time off. We don't have a large amount of Japanese members who post, but hopefully a lot tune in to the Forum to read posts; maybe you'll get some interest and replies. Good luck!
Glad you found JREF, post often and enjoy!

Frank

Nothing against the original poster, whom I wish all the best, but foreigners who live and work in Japan for an extended period of time generally tend not to hang out with recent arrivals or those of a transient nature (those who will be gone in a year or two).

Why?

Well, for the reason that we tend to be at different ages and different stages in our lives and, other than our foreignness, have very little in common. For example, I'm a 40 year old guy with a wife and two kids, working 70+ hours a week, and umpteen years in Japan have sort of taken the shine off the place for me, even though I still love it here. I know a few scattered folks similar to myself, and we get together every couple or three years. But you don't find any recently arrived early 20s single English conversation teachers in the mix. Flip the coin, and the recently arrived early 20s single English conversation teachers aren't too keen to hang out with decrepit married guys 20 years older than them either. We just have nothing in common.

That being said, living in Kiryu (Gunma) I am in physical proximity to the OP and would be glad to help him out with anything I can. Could the OP narrow his location down to something more specific than Tochigi Prefecture, please?

Hello and welcome Stosskraft !! I hope you also enjoy the forums and the friends here in jref. There are many things to learn--and sure there are some you can share as well.

I think Mike has a valid point there, although I have always been good with mixing with almost all kinds (age, sex, nationality, 'race',). So if you ever plan on swinging by the Nagano (Matsumoto) area, let me know, and we can have a BBQ out here in the wilderness.

Enjoy the forum and Japan !
