did they laugh at the attempts of mexiwood trying to emulate giant robotz-godzilla super brawl
or did they embrace it like you would a hairless sewer rat

I saw it in a semi full theater at 11:30 am in 2-D, a week after opening, and it went over fine. The other two 3-D iMAX screens would have had more people in attendance. It did better than the Lone Ranger, for sure.

Though it doesn't have any A-list Hollywood stars, Rinka Kikuchi is a star in Japan, and that means a lot.

Plus, this, from Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid (http://www.nerdist.com/2013/07/hideo-kojima-sounds-off-on-why-you-should-see-pacific-rim/):
Pacific Rim is the ultimate otaku film that all of us had always been waiting for. Who are you, if you are Japanese and won't watch this?

A lot of my students were very excited to watch it (Summer break and all) although I would imagine it might be scary for some of the little ones. I enjoyed it also. Hope the international haul is enough to warrant a sequel.
