こんいちはシリダンです。

I am just starting to learn Japanese, and I have a few greetings that I know. However, one of the first things I always seem to get asked is "Why do you want to learn Japanese?"

So far this has been asked to me in English, but I would MUCH prefer to answer something in Japanese rather than switching back to English.

So, how would I say something like:

"I have always been interested in Japanese culture." in Japanese?

I know I could look up the words and build a literal translation, but what I am after is how a native speaker would put forth that sentiment.

Thanks in advance!

I am not a native speaker but this is what I would say: ずっと日本の文化に興味を持っているから日本語を勉強しようと思いました。(ずっとにほんのぶんかにきょうみをもっているからにほんごをべんきょうしようとおもいました)

There is probably a better, more natural way to say this, but this will get your point across I am sure. I am sure a native will chime in and give you something better though. However, do not get too caught up on sounding perfectly natural, it will only hinder your confidence and slow your advancement in my opinion.
