do you spend studying Japanese? Day/week?


I searched the forums but didn't see a thread like this. If there is one, please delete/merge as you see fit.

How much time do you spend studying Japanese each day/week?

Mine varies from time to time, but I spend about 50 hours a week usually. I count conversation time with my workers as studying since I must communicate in Japanese with them some of the time, other times it is in English. I also count stopping at the combini, kendo practice, buying gas...basically anytime I spend actually speaking the language as study time.

I try to spend around 2-3 hours a week practicing my writing/reading of the language, but many times I can't meet that schedule.

I have to ramp up my training though as I have tests to take in November which will require reading/writing and I am currently not ready (not even close).

How about you guys? How much or how often do you study? (JREF doesn't count unless you are actually practicing your reading comprehension skills! )
 
As its summer and I have no school - probably 2-3 hours a week, and thats mostly from reading childrens books and what not.

fair enough! I'm sure a lot of us could say that! If I didn't count regular conversation my actual sit down study time wouldn't be much at all!
 
I try to study about every chance I get. I would say average 4-5 hours everyday I count talking with my girl friend on MSN and Reading up on JREF from other people's questions.

I wonder if there is physically a limiti to where you must take abreak. Starting think no matter how much I study I progress slower now than before.
 
I don't study everyday, but I talk to my friends every day and try to pick up some new words here and there Today my friend's dad called me on skype, taihen datta !! :| I really hope I can study in Japan after graduation next year. I need to spend as much time in a japanese evironment as possible.
 
I don't study nearly as much as I used to. In fact, I don't really consider what I do studying at all. But, I guess I could count a few hours here and on mixi every day as study time. However, I have recently picked up my study of kanji again (and by "recently" I mean yesterday and today ).
 
When I used to study Japanese. I would study at least two days a week for a couple of hours.
 
I talk to my two cats in Japanese. I also changed their names in 猫やん (Nekoyan) and ツーちゃん (Tuuchan) for some obscure reason. They respond just as badly as when I talk Dutch, except when they're hungry.

Haha, I tried that too! But just like your cats they only respond when there's food involved. Meh cats !
 
I read novels in Japanese about 2-6 hours a day when I'm not out of town and don't have friends visiting from out of town. I've had more time to do so since summer break started. I don't realy consider my verbal interactions with Japanese people to be studying.
 
Well, the biggest problem is speaking Japanese. I think talking in Japanese is even more important than writing/reading. Afteral, you're not going to write everytime you want to explain something to somebody.

I have not actually sat down to study in god knows how long... I guess the only thing that comes close is JREF... I probably should, and would if I were going to Japan rather than Taiwan, but since no Japanese live within 200 miles of me, and I don't really have much motive to learn, I guess I don't see the point at the moment. I mean, I fine with nichijoukaiwa--I can basically say what ever I want, and don't plan to live in Japan, so...
Anyway, maybe when I come back I'll actually "study" Japanese...or maybe not, I don't know...
実際に勉強したのは、残念ながら久しぶりだったんですよね。「勉強」っていえるかわからないけど、ＪＲＥＦは一番近いかな～。やっぱり勉強すべきだとわかってるのに、日本じゃなくて台湾に留学するし、ウィスコンシンだなんて、日本人なかなかいないから、勉強したくないというか、理由は全然ないというか・・・。もう日常会話なら構わないくらい出来るようになったし、日本に住む予定はないんで、それでいいんじゃないかと思って・・・。
たぶん、台湾から帰国したら、もっと詳しく勉強するのかもしれないけど、さあ、どうだろぉ～・・・。

edit: Although now that I think of it, I do talk to myself in Japanese all the time, if that counts as studying... I call it "Jubun no kaiwa," lol... People think I'm crazy... Maybe I am, haha
Oh, and whenever I have a paper and pen, I litter the paper with kanji, although nowadays I have been writing more Chinese... Still kanji, though, I guess...

I think I'm going crazy doing something study-related most of my waking hours -- either listening to the news (all work day), reading the paper, bugging friends and lover on the phone...etc.
そうですね。人と何気なく話しているのは本当の勉強（だ）と考えられないですけど。。。。
それは、全然効果がない勉強方法と言えることがあるとも思えません

私にとって、聞き取りと関係ある勉強し方はもちろん大事だし、毎日一日中
日本のラジオ局もインターネットでのNHKニュース放送聞いたり、新聞を読んだりしている
ことはほとんどあります。

普段は、練習日をする日本人の友達は、日本での夏休みから戻ってきて１週間がたっただけです。 また連絡取る前に、彼女が落ち着くまで、待っています。
考えるときりがないです。

I might learn somethnig small every day but then again I'm not really learning in the sense I have textbooks and exercises.

I would like to learn faster but I never really get round to it, I guess I should really try.
