I keep seeing the news reports of all the damage caused by the quake, and, man, they're heart-breaking every time I see them. I don't have much money to donate but I want to help. Does anyone know where I could go to volunteer to help with rebuilding efforts?

At this stage, most wanted volunteers is those who can help at evacuation centers to do cleaning and distributing food. And all the volunteers are expected to take care of the place to stay, food, and transportation by themselves.

List of the volunteer centers accepting volunteers are found in the following pages.

I believe that more volunteers will be wanted in the coming 1-2 months after logistic infrastructure is restored and availability of gasoline becomes more stable.
You can also ask information at your city/ward hall.

Our City hall faxed us with how many people we are able to care for and send to the disaster zone. We are sending a few care workers to help with aid and we can take in quite a few patients at this stage. So if you want to help I suggest you contact your nearest city hall.

I would add that unless you have a fairly good command of Japanese, you not join the volunteers.
