Hmmm......

I know a shop in Kyoto that sells antique swords. Apparently piece by piece, too. I was told that a complete blade from the 17th century would cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Anyone else in Japan know of any stores like this?

I know ofa few in Tokyo, but I have never been. I can't get the link to work because I am at work (they frown on shopping for swords), but www.aoi-art.web.sh.cwidc.net/main.html is the address of a great sword dealer. thanks, mandylion! i had been thinking about buying a sword from there for tae kwon do later on. i wasn't planning on using it much, but i still wanted a sword that was good for more than just hanging on the wall or looking pretty- i want a REAL sword, with real craftmanship. <lol>i sword like i'm talking baout guys or something...

sorry to change subject but i thought that the character hattori hanzo in kill bill was based on a ninja from the early tokugawa era. someone please correct me if i am mistaken. domo!

Hey i just recently bought a Hattori Hanzou sword and it cost me a bit too! its so nice and the blade is folded steel not like those crappy imatations

My daisho is actually Spanish made. They were made for the practical martial arts market are are pretty good quality. Folded a lot (but not as much as the real old ones made for high ranking samurai and the like) they are made to be used practially. The saya is completely plain. My wife wanted me to get the fancy looking cheap ones, but I wanted a proper one even though they look very plain on the wall.

Hattori Hanzo was the name of one of the ninja from the movie "Owl`s castle" I forget if he was the good guy or the turn coat. but his name is deffinately on there.
