i see swords as an art not just a beautiful weapon, in my view the 2 finest swords has to be the Moorish/Islamic sword - also influenced the 'spanish sword' they were thin, lightweight and swift, as opposed to the large heavy ones used by the crusaders.

And of course the Japanese Katana. enough said.

I would really like to purchase one, but an authentic one, i dont trust the ones u see on ebay in their abundance. I would rather have one thats been traditionally made from Japan. What are the prices like? whats the difference between a fake and authentic blade? ive heard the authentic ones are made from carbon high steel or alloy.

Fake Japanese sword(Katana) is called "Mozou tou" in Japan. "Mozou" means "fake" and "tou" means "Katana".

"Mozou tou" is made from an aluminum or die casting of zinc. It has not a edge.
Authentic Katana made from carbon high steel. It has a keen edge as like razor.

You can buy a fake(Mozou tou) about \10.000 to \30.000 in Japan. But I don't know the market price of England, sorry.

hi Nangi, thanks for the information. The Mozou tou swords sound real crappy by the sound of it :S For me i'd either have the real thing from Japan or nothing.

I checked out the link but it seems as if they sell authentic antique ones only? I would be interested in the authentic 'modern katana' style ones.

i know a little about things like this since im an iaidoka. But the question is what kind of sword do you want? A newly made one or a historical one or a practice blade or a wallhanger. depending on the answer you may need to go to different places and never ever trust any "anime" or "ninja " stores.

any way, search for sword black smith in japan, there is few great ones in japan....you can find people who collect swords via internet, they will provide you with names.

日本刀 is the best sword and their are immense amounts of different shapes of katana's, The one from the movie あずみ is cool, but so is the sword of Toshiro Mifune in 七人の侍.
