Hiragana words?

I am reading a book about tea culture in Kamakura, but I have trouble reading hirigana because I have no formal training in Japanese. There are no spaces, so how do I know where one word ends and another word begins? I assume I have to partly figure it out by context, but is there an easy way to do this?

I know at first it's hard, but it'll get easy. Indeed there are no spaces. Particles make it easier to understand when words are ending and new words are beginning (but it's hard if you don't know the meaning of the words/particles...)

As you go along with your Japanese study, you'll start to learn kanji. Kanji, while difficult and tedious, actually help a lot with distinguishing meaning, words, etc.

LOL The kanji is easy, as long as I've got a dictionary. Yay for symbolic print

Do Japanese words have prefixes or suffixes that are common enough to look for?
