Himuro Family

Hitomi Himuro said:
Right than the girls are normally choosen threw Demon tag. The process of this is the following: For starters the ceremony was held every 10 years. The one whom was Blinded was put into a room with all the 7 year old girls. The blinded woman was introduced as the oni and began to chase the girls around the largest room in the mansion which could than be located on the upper level.First girl to be caught - She would become the next Blinded & 'Oni' in the Maiden Selection Ceremony A explanation may be that because she was so easy to capture, she was 'blind' to the demon. Since the 'Blinded' is considered to be a maiden of holy power, her strength was to transfer her blindness to the demons behind the Hell's Gate. Needless to say, you definately did not want to be the first to be caught. After the girl was caught she was locked up and would be in that room for 3369 days. The priests that were to raise the girl till the day of the ceremony which was the 12th month on the 13th day. On the night of the ritual the choosen maiden was brought the the moon shrine(Which know longer exists due to a fire that occured there in 1895)She was than to undress herself and cleanse her body with the moonlight. Once this had been done the head priest or ceremony master and the family would come and get the maiden. The ritual was commenly held at the rope altar. Though it varies from the ritual. Why I keep it a secret is because after Tecmo decided to creat 'Fatal Frame' and added the part based on a true story, this caused tourists and gamers to go insane. I've had many restriction orders been put on people though this doesn't seem to work. If you don't mind me saying I think I had a right to not want to talk about it considering how many useless deaths were caused there, Many lives were taken away.
the first bit of that about the blind girl chaseing other girls in a room makes sence and could be true
for this reason.
In my research i've found that in japan children play this game where they stand in a circle w/ one person in the middle w/ their eyes closed. they circle around this isolated child saying this
Kagome Kagome
Kago no naka no tori wa,
Itsu itsu deyaru.
Yoake to ban ni.
Tsuru to kame ga subetta,
Ushiro no shoumen dare.
Transalted:-
Kagome, Kagome,
When does the bird inside the cage come out?
At dawn and evenings.
Who is in front of the back where a crane and turtle slipped and fell

then when they stop the one in the middles has to guess who is behind them.If he/she is right then the quessed child has to go into the middle and they start over. Is this childs game related to the ritual? Or simply made up based on lore? Noe i'm not from japan so i would like someone who is or knows of to tell me. Thanks

The Truth Behind the Legend?

Website entitled The Truth Behind the Himuro Mansion:

The TRUTH behind the 'True Story'
When TECMO® first released Fatal Frame in 2002, the words 'Based on a true story' immediately caught game viewers eyes. What was the story behind the game? Was there really a Himuro Mansion? The answer isn't exactly as easy as it would seem.

First things first. Fatal Frame is not based on a story of two teenagers with sixth sense running around a haunted mansion, nor about a family named Himuro that sacrificed young women in Shinto rituals. According to Tecmo, it's based on two specific urban legends/ghost stories from Japan.

(Personal Note: It's good to point out at this point that because they're based on ghost stories, while there may be SOME facts to them, it's also possible that there isn't any haunted mansion at all.)
What TECMO® has said concerning the Himuro Mansion
(quote by Makoto Shibata, Chief Producer of Fatal Frame):

In an area outside Tokyo, there lies a mansion in which it's said seven people were murdered in a grisly manner. On the same property, there lie three detached residences that surround the mansion, all of which are rumoured to have ties to the mansion's troubled past. It's said there is an underground network of tunnels that lay beneath the premises, but nobody knows who made these tunnels or what purpose they served. Many inexplicable phenomenon have been reported occurring on the property. Bloody handprints have been found splattered all over the walls. Spirits have been spotted on the premises… even in broad daylight. A narrow stairway leads to an attic where a spirit-sealed talisman is rumoured to be locked away. Men have sought this talisman, only to be found later with their bodies broken and rope marks around their wrists. There's a crumbling old statue of a woman in a kimono, but its head is missing. If you take a photo of a certain window, a young girl can be seen in the developed picture. These incidents have provoked fear in the people of Tokyo, and many believe that those who live near this area will become cursed. The deaths of those seven people are unexplained to this day."

Basic Facts concerning Himuro:
- Himuro is a very popular name in Japan. Think of it as the equivalent to the last name 'Smith' in the US or 'Lee' in China. Because of this, if there actually is a mansion, it's most likely not called the 'Himuro' mansion. This is probably to keep the mansion from becoming a tourist attraction to gaming fans.

- The actual mansion that Himuro was supposedly based on, most likely looks nothing like the mansion in the game. Not to mention, the Himuro mansion's construction is very similar to a lot of old residences in Japan, so even though you might come across a place that looks like Himuro from the game, it doesn't necessarily mean that the mansion *is* the Himuro mansion.

- A series of horrific mysterious murders took place at the mansion (I think it was seven murders, supposedly in the early 1900s*), which is the whole reason it's haunted to begin with. (nothing involving sacrificed shrine maidens and secret rituals. (And anyone who claims otherwise this is pretty much lying.))

Online Rumours concerning Himuro:
(Note, these are RUMOURS/HERESAY/UNPROVEN information,
and I cannot currently back them up!)

- The mansion is supposedly on private property
- Another name for the Himuro Mansion is the Himikyru Mansion.

Why the mansion might not exist at all:
1. The most obvious reason is that the story comes from the rural mountain areas and it's a ghost story. While a lot of ghost stories are based on fact, it is also good to note that some are just stories meant to scare people.

2. The mansion is reportedly on private property and people currently live there. I would like to note, that this has been mentioned a lot online, and I don't have an actual definative source for this, but this would make sense as to also why the actual mansion's name has not been made public if it exists. It also could be an excuse why it's hard to find the mansion, go inside, and why the mansion itself may not exist at all.

3. 'In an area outside of Tokyo' is extremely vague. That's like saying 'in an area outside of New York City'. Gamezone reported that 'both stories originated from the rural mountainous regions of Japan'. Still, not much help in the area of where exactly this supposed mansion actually is.

4. The Japanese version of Fatal Frame *never* included the tagline 'based on a true story'.

5. It is very likely given current evidence that the mansion was created from several stories/locations of different haunted places in Japan, and not one specific place.

Himuro girl was a fake

in the history of the Himuro family, the man of the houses hold murdered his entire family and that was a long time ago, so you see she can't be real, everyone died in that place no one was left.

Hello over there!

Sorry but you are wrong legion_chaos. If no one survived then were did the stories come from? Can anyone have a good exscuse why that's not real? If so call it out. Also if no one survived then how did the police or what ever know who killed who and why? Also their riturals... who could have told them about that? The Family couldn't tell anyone cause they will possibly be arrested or something. There is also so much more about the himuro mansion then the dissappearances and riturals. There is the hauntings and the curse. So bring it on! Whoop! I win! :win:

Actually, this really is a game for children in Japan. Kagome is also translated as 'Demon Tag'. Techinically, the 'Demon Tag' described in FF1 is something more like the modern game, Marco Polo.

Alhtough the game claims to be based on 'a true story' you realize of course that only the US version says so? And its called rumours. Especially in 'ancient' times, things people could not explain (because there weren't many scientist back then  ) would be explained by religious teachings or just made up a story about it. It still happens today you know. And, I'm also assuming that in the game, the bodies of those in the Himuro mansion 'dissappeared' as only their ghosts were seen but not the actual corpses.

Lady Hitomi

My lady should this information not be kept secret...?
The master would have wished for this to be kept underwraps...Its bad enough that they know about it at all....

Gomen..
I'm sorry for the rest of you too and if i ruined your fun but I am not an Himuro.
Just a decendant of one of the few priests who ecsaped the Wrath of the master.
My father said he would rather the information kept a secret.

Forgive me

I am sorry 😌

I'll never understand people's enduring fascination with this particular topic... The link Bramicus posted pretty much sums it up imho.

Interesting thread, have to say though all this himuro mansion stuff is all totally new to me but quite intriguing as im very interested in the paranormal and similar things, but i have some questions as whenever i try to search the himuro mansion stuff i don't realy get much other than what has already been said in this thread, "ahem";

a. Maybe i havn't read thoroughly enough, but i didn't get the exact point of why the rituals were supposedly performed and what benefits they had?
b. Never played any horror games apart from resident evil and that was almost a decade ago(ah, how time flys), let alone any ghost games, so i don't realy know any of the plots.
You say that the game was based on various ghost story sources so there must be similar storys of the himuro mansion yes? Does anyone know of any similar ghost storys or happenings?

Thanks for your time 🙂

Dear Tokis-Pheonix,

I agree with Iron Chef that this thread should close. It started with hallucinations being posted by some Himuro-stuff fan, causing people without much knowledge of real Japanese history and traditions to be swayed by her claims.

If you are interested in this type of thing, I think you should just start up a new thread asking questions of your own and not bring this thing back from the dead...:haihai:

I did not bring this thread back up from the dead, it was already here at the top of the main page when i posted- i am sorry for asking questions here, i thought they would be appropriate to the thread subject, sort of seems a waste/a bit extreme to lock this thread just because somone made an idiot of themselves at the start.

My apologies if I didn't explain thoroughly.

I know you didn't bring it back from the dead. But by asking questions along the line of the thread, I thought people who are naive and not sane-minded like you might read the "halluciations" in the early part of the thread and start the mess all over again. I am tired of reading the falsehoods claimed on threads like this, people asking whether they are true and posters refuting them with long explanations...☝

That's what I thought. I just thought you can give a good start to a better thread. :joyful:

I dunno if I have to believe that you are the last living bloodline of the controversially acclaimed Himuro family, its just that you sound like any other die-hard fan of the game Fatal Frame. Any family belonging to a tragic past not to mention been through gruelling hell wouldn't have the audacity to relive or retell what happen because it scares the **** outta them. Girl, you need to get a new hobby or a life because posing as somebody else just wouldn't cut it, it comes with the territory, sorry dahling!

She hasn't been on for 21 years? Dead or alive , who knows? Was it a real honest to good person telling the truth or just a made up story? So much we will probably never know.

Over two decades later, I still wonder where the Himuro Mansion is located.

yes, it is on the outside of Tokyo there really is not a street. It is more like a forest that you enter. It is not hard to miss. Himuro Mansion is falling apart. So if by chance you do decide to visit, be careful. And watch it the cities officials have wanted to burn it down for centuries...
