I am the last and only Himuro Family member still alive if you have any questions on the history of the Himuro mansion or the rituals that were performed there, I suppose it would be a good time to let everybody know....feel free to ask:?
 
I'd love to know about your family, but I don't know where to start..hmm, I need to think on what to ask.

What is the exact location of the Himuro Mansion.

Aka, prefecture, city, and street.

And please don't say outside of Tokyo, because you know that's like saying outside of new york city. ~_^
 
I can't really say much do to the tourists but what I can say is yes, it is on the outside of Tokyo there really is not a street. It is more like a forest that you enter. It is not hard to miss. Himuro Mansion is falling apart. So if by chance you do decide to visit, be careful. And watch it the cities officials have wanted to burn it down for centuries...what was left of my family then protested.
 
Alright then. So tell us about your family history then? Seeing your kamen and the development of it over the years would be interesting.

And if you know so much, what age were girls chosen for the ceremony?

If the mansion is rundown and nobody lives there why keep it a secret? There are tons and tons of old villages and ruins in Japan people make pilgrimages too..and if you are in fact who you claim to be..you would know. Otherwise, how is anyone to believe you're just not another fan trying to get attention by saying they're part of the Himuro family or that they've been to the mansion...

Which honestly if you are..it discredits and hurts those actually wanting to know the story behind the mansion itself. :eek:

It would be intruiging if you are actually a family member..but you're going to have to offer a bit more proof than your word if you are who you say you are.
 
Right then, the girls are normally chosen through Demon tag. The process of this is the following: For starters, the ceremony was held every 10 years. The one who was Blinded was put into a room with all the 7-year-old girls. The blinded woman was introduced as the one and began to chase the girls around the largest room in the mansion, which could then be located on the upper level. The first girl to be caught - She would become the next Blinded & 'Oni' in the Maiden Selection Ceremony. An explanation may be that she was 'blind' to the demon because she was so easy to capture. Since the 'Blinded' is considered a maiden of holy power, her strength was to transfer her blindness to the demons behind the Hell's Gate. Needless to say, you definitely did not want to be the first to be caught. After the girl was caught, she was locked up and in that room for 3369 days. The priests were to raise the girl until the day of the ceremony, the 12th month on the 13th day. On the night of the ritual, the chosen maiden was brought to the moon shrine(Which no longer exists due to a fire in 1895). She was then to undress and cleanse her body with the moonlight. Once this had been done, the head priest or ceremony master and the family would come and get the maiden. The ritual was commonly held at the rope altar. However, it varies from the ritual. I keep it a secret because after Tecmo decided to create 'Fatal Frame' and added the part based on a true story, this caused tourists and gamers to go insane. I've had many restriction orders been put on people though this doesn't seem to work. If you don't mind me saying, I think I had a right not to talk about it considering how many useless deaths were caused there. Many lives were taken away.
 
Well, even if she did tell you the location of the mansion, it wouldn't matter since you don't know the location yourself, so, therefore, it's not proof of anything. and another odd thing, a lot of people who have found it won't reveal it the location publicly. Probably some reason for that. She's not forcing you to believe her. You don't have to if you don't want to.
 
☝ Most people have asked permission to enter the mansion. Most of the time, I'll allow it. I don't have a problem with it, but sometimes it's difficult to keep my family status low. I've asked that people won't say too much of its whereabouts or be specific about it. :( Sorry but it's very depressing. :(

And no. I don't believe her. But I dislike having honest people lied to. No Shinto rituals like the one within the game Zero (Fatal Frame) ever took place. Especially considering blood and death are defilements to the shinto religion.

I would *LOVE* for their to be a Himuro Mansion or a similar story to exist..but people masquerading as family members doesn't help the plausibilty of the story. *shrugs* It's not being mean, it's being realistic.

So gomenasai for hurting your feelings Hitomi, but I honestly think your a fan out for attention.

i'm with mr camera, I call bullsh.... I call fraud.

except for the "I would love for there to be" part.. I would hate for there to have been human sacrifices (that's what I've been led to believe this was all about through the set of threads about this over the past few days as I had never heard of this stuff before), nor would I like to think that people are insisting they need to make another sacrifice every 75 years.. that can not end well.

Hitomi has this cryptic "welcome in! I'll welcome you!.. if you find it..." attitude that doesn't make any sense what-so-ever.

If a surviving family member wants you there, she'll write the adress and stand at the gates selling souveniers and protective charms (printed on a Canon stylewriter 6500 at her home and sold for 400 times the price it cost her to print). She will also set up a site, with clear directions so she can milk this money-cow dry!

If she does *not* want visitors disrupting her family home, treading on the memories of her deceased forefathers she will not offer to tell people about them (thus fueling the interest in going there to rumage around) on a public bulletin board.

that's just my 2 cents, I might be wrong, but I seriously doubt it.

Also, an excerpt from my good friend Eiko's FF1 summary is eerily similar but not exact.:

"This imprisonment lasted for 3669 days (approximately 10 years). The priests that took care of her were ordered to wear masks all the time, to avoid that the Rope Shrine Maiden would become attached to them. Usually, the Rope Shrine Maiden suffers from her loneliness and wants to die.
After 3669 days, on the 13th day of the 12th month, the Rope Shrine Maiden would be taken to the Moon Shrine. Inside, she would enter the Moon Well, where she was supposed to purify her body with moonlight. Once this task was done, the Family Master, priests and Himuro family would come to fetch her for the Strangling Ritual.
The Strangling ritual was performed in the Rope Altar. Ropes were tied to the Rope Shrine Maiden窶 arms, legs and neck. These ropes were attached to wheels, and as the wheels are turned, the Rope Shrine Maiden窶冱 limbs are pulled off. Once this was done, the Family Master and priests take the bloody ropes and tie them in front of the Hell Gate. I get...A LOT...of emails. Many of them thank me for the site, have questions about the game, or ask for research information. I more than gladly respond to everyone.

Then I have the 'himuro' emails...where people claim to be part of the family, claim to have pictures of the mansion..or claim to have visited.

And I humour...ALL OF THEM. And there's always a pattern...one of which Hitomi is following. Sorry for being such a sceptic...but I try to investigate and look for the truth, even if it's not a truth I want to see.

When the game first came out in Japan... it *NEVER* claimed to be a true story. Why not? The Japanese LOVE ghost stories and haunted houses..they would eat it up...Tecmo could have definitely sold more games that way (not that they really needed to..FF1 & FF2 are on the bestseller list). It was only when the game came out in the US did it use the tagline...and the creators themselves have admitted the games are nothing more based on urban legends and local ghost stories. (Which do have western counterparts).

Just for the record, I wanted to say that I agree with the people who think this "Hitomi Himuro" is an obvious phoney. I really wish I had written something after her first post.

One thing that clued me in was that she had listed in her user profile the AIM account "green_blue_eyed_yuna" (edit: she seems to have removed this since probably because it's a giveaway as to her true identity?). A quick search for that username on Google turned up a person posting some seriously crappy fanfiction on this site, as well as a link to a homepage at http://www.yunaandrikku.friendpages.com which is blank, but titled "Mandy and Andy's Home Page."

All of this -- combined with how preposterous the idea is, to begin with -- seems to suggest that this is just an immature little girl treating this forum as her own private little roleplaying board. I think this isn't such a good thing, especially when she starts posting in other threads (search her posts) and offering her opinion as a "Japanese woman." Lots of people come to this forum with a serious interest in learning and talking about Japan. They shouldn't have to listen to some little girl who knows no more about the real Japan than they do (and probably less, in some cases) spouting misinformation and stereotypes as if she actually had first-hand knowledge of the stuff she's talking about.

I'm sure that there are plenty of Fatal Frame roleplaying boards out there where "green_blue_eyed_yuna" can play the part of "Hitomi Himuro" if that's what she wants to do, but if she wants to keep posting at JREF, I think she should be required to do so under her real identity.

I don't know if it real or not, but I will do this. I am in the USAF and stationed in Tokyo. If anyone has a location with good directions I will check it out and let you know what I find.

Also, if anyoen knows of any other "haunted" spots around Tokyo, please let me know.
 
Hello, schultzy!

Are you stationed in Yokota? The closest haunted spot to the base is the former Hachioji Castle ruins, where the famed samurai Maeda Toshi-ie's army killed off every single soul inside the castle in 1588. Blood reportedly flowed continuously into the river. Visit after dark!

The closest railway station is Takao.

Shinto religion, what would and would not be done

And Christianity would never condone torture, rape, and many of the other heinous acts that have been done in the name of Christ. And Islam doesn't condone terrorism. And an itinerant Buddhist priest would never be out for personal glory. ☝ I agree with what you've said, and I think this young lady is clearly in a fantasy world, but I do have to nitpick with one thing you said.
The fact that this fictional ritual does not fit in with the ideals of the shinto religion and practices is not proof that it didn't exist. No matter what the religion, there have been people and sects who have perverted teachings and rituals for one reason or another. Shinto is no more immune to this than any other. Theoretically, I think this ritual could have existed. On the other hand, it doesn't seem much in keeping with the general trends of Japanese thought (that I know of, and I am very very ignorant, admittedly!)
On a side note, I don't think the girl who started this thread is even Japanese. Since I am coming here for real information and fact, it's rather disheartening to see the board used like this.

To explain myself, there isn't much anthropolgical evidence (IE human remains, that sort of thing) to support the Hitobashira ritual stories.

However, the rituals if they are true, aren't even close to the game. Most 'victims' are willing participants, and very rarely 'forced'. (In cases they are forced, the ritual doesn't work, and the village suffers anyways. This is the popular theme of a person's ghost coming back to seek vengence for a wrongdoing.)

Most hitobashira stories will deal with natural elements, like water or fire. In Shinto, both of these are 'purifying' elements, so being 'killed' or sacrificed in that manner seems more OK than being ripped apart limb from limb with your blood defiling a shinto temple.

Is it possible..yes. Shintoism follows three major divisions, the most largest was worship of local kami which was defined by particular laws/ways of a village or region. Since this worship varied from practically village to village, it is possible that there could have been a cult that sacrificed individuals...but again...there's very little evidence to support this...let alone a cult that would tear people limb from limb. :)

ok this is more than likely fake. Now i am not claiming to be an expert or anything of the sort, but i apperently know a lot more than her, in a subject for that matter. Reasons why she's a lier.
1. In my research i've discovered that Himuro is a very common last name.
2. in lore it is said that the head man of the house went on a killer spree after the rituel did not go as planned. He was said to have killed everyone in the house including himself. Now if this is a rituel then more likely then not the whole family was probally there. and sence everyone was killed then how did our lovely phony come to be?
3.i'm not gulable. and unlike most i do research before i blab about something or fall for it.

Anyway off that topic.
I'm saving to take a trip to this famed mansion. I think when i do go i'll go after dark, dare me? :-)
