Help translating badge/scarf

Hey everyone!
A sword and (what looks like) a few military patches have come into my possession and I would like to know if there may be anyone who might be able to help in translating some of the handwriting on them. They originate from a skirmish in World War II. I'm still learning how to write and read Japanese and unfortunately I'm not that far into my studies to be able to pick out and understand the handwriting and what it says.

The sword itself is very old and the wooden scabbard that it was a part of has cracked throughout time (causing one of my family members to use some rope in order to keep everything together). I'm sorry that I only have pictures available at this time of the writing on the patch and the small scarf that's attached to the tsuba.

新刀無銘, I think Shinto mu-mei (New sword, no signature) "New sword" in this case is the word used to differentiate modern-era swords from medieval/ancient swords. It doesn't (necessarily) mean that the sword was brand new. It could well be a "New sword" that was already several centuries old by the time this tag was made.

The flag is a bit of an anomaly. To me the writings look like some foreigner's attempt at trying to make characters that look like kanji. It doesn't look authentic. (While the sword tag and the epaulets(?) do look authentic).

So if I understand correctly the third picture (the odd flag) looks like someone's attempt to write in kanji but it doesn't look very natural? That's interesting. When you take the sword out of the scabbard it has some very obvious wear and tear on the blade and the very tip of it even has some nitches, which is understandable if it was truly used during war time then never touched again and placed in a storage chest. I sort of understood that the fourth and fifth picture was a family name (with maybe the rank in regards to the stars?), but it was the scarf bit that really threw me off and makes me absolutely the most curious. So it's more like the name of the person who purchased it along with the price written and then attached to the tsuba? I don't understand if that was merely for identification purposes or if the sword was truly just bought recently and never had the scarf removed.
