Us old timers !!!
I can see where your grandfather is coming from, being an older person also. When I grew up the TV was full of movies about the "dirty japs" and the "rotton" Nazies. If I wasn't being bombarded with movie and TV propaganda, I was being told "jazzed up" war stories by "half-in-the-bag" vets about the "evil" Japs or Jerries and the evil they did. Then if you watch todays news, you usually see all the bad things about other countries. It pretty hard not to let all that brainwashing get to you !
I went to Japan with all these ideas in my head and saw first hand what things and people were really like, and learned what a closed mind I and other Americans had. I even checked into giving up my American citizenship to become a Japanese citizen; I was so impressed.
And another thing when it comes to us old people; we get off on winding you youn-uns up. I say things to my very young friends that I don't believe, but by winding them up I get them to think about something besides Nintendo or the latest music for a bit.
Anyway, take what others say to you with a grain of salt and check things out for yourself.
