I'm not certain this is the appropriate place to start this thread but I desperately need help in several areas regarding my poor PC.
While browsing the internet about a month ago I contracted a wonderful virus through some popup for anti-spyware/virus programs. Of course I didn't download the programs...who would? But even when I exited the popup it initiated a download that I couldn't stop. To be honest I don't remember the names of said programs since I discovered how to eliminate them awhile ago...but since I've gotten rid of them my computer's been on the fritz.
Here are my questions. I really hope someone can help me out here.
1. I need a reliable virus detecting and deleting program. Norton is horrid. I had bit-defender for awhile but they haven't been very useful since I didn't subscribe to their service. I'm in no position to start subscriptions now either and so it would be best if there wasn't money involved but beggars can't be choosers. And I'm desperate at this point.
2. I don't have my Windows XP discs anymore. Who knows what happened to them. Everytime I open my internet browser or any program that uses the internet (ie: messengers, music downloading software, etc) a window pops up asking me to insert the disc three or four times. I have to cancel the window of course since my discs have magically disappeared...but I can't stand it anymore. Every three or so minutes an ad pops up and along with it that windows message.
Windows I hate you! :box:
3. This can be dealt with now or later but I can no longer defragment my system. I use Diskeeper for degragmentation and now when I attempt to start it up I recieve an error message. Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions?
Please Save my Computer.
Thanks for any future help...assuming there will be any.
