Hi people and hi Japan.
I admire Japan and find the culture and shadowy historic link to my language and people damn interesting. Hope to learn lots and contribute lots!

Welcome Duman. Looking forward to your contribution.

What is the nature of that shadowy link between Turkish and Japanese?

Thanks for the welcome. Well, both Turkish and Japanese are in the Altaic branch of languages and are good chances there are ethnic links too dating back to central Asia.

Ahh I see, thanks Duman. I had never thought about it :banghead: Opens up a host of new possibilities to think about

Apparently some people disagree with this categorisation though.

Languages : Altaic Family

Of course, some dispute the very existence of "Altaic" let alone Turanic. But I don't see how the site you mentioned questions the Altaic link between Japanese and Turkish ???

Woops just saw the "Some linguists do not include Korean and Japanese in this family." Sorry!

Something that is even less agreed upon is the unification of Finno-Ugric and Ural-Altaic languages under the term "Turanian".

Greetings from the Japan Alps Duman san !!! It's nice to have you here with us in this great big world-wide family of friends around the world who have interest in Japan and things Japanese, as well as others too.

I hope you enjoy the forum and post when and where you can. It does appear that you have done the deeper than usual research into the linguistics field, and that is provides insight and something to talk about.

There is fora for this particular subject under the Europe Forum, if my memory serves me right; and there may be a space for the Japanese end of it in the Japan forum too.

Anyway, welcome, and I do hope to see you 'round !
