Actually, it is quite sunny here most of the time, but I just liked the way that sounds.
I stumbled upon this message board while looking for some information for an upcoming trip to Japan, and after lurking about, I got hooked. What an active, interesting forum!!!
I first went to Japan in 1973, as a member of the US Air Force. My original plan was to serve a two year unaccompanied tour, as I was 23 and single. I immediately came to love Japan and ventured out away from the base as often as I could, trying to learn all that I could about all things Japanese.
When I was about 7 months away from the end of my original tour of duty, when I least expected it, it happened -- I met a young Japanese lady who absolutely captured my heart. As the relationship got serious very quickly, I decided that it would be wise to extend my tour in Japan by one year. A few months later, Ritsuko and I got married, and I extended for an additional two years, thus spending a total of 5 years in the country.
I separated from the military in 1978, and we moved to the US, moving around a bit then finally settling, due to a corporate transfer, to Iowa, where we currently live.
I look forward to reading, and occaisionally posting, in this dynamic and diverse forum.
