My husband loves being over 30. He flaunts his experience at his younger colleagues at work and he thinks his wrinkles give his face character.

I hate getting older. I don't have any grey hairs yet, but I look for them with dread. I feel gutted every time I catch myself frowning in case the wrinkle between my eyes gets any deeper. I drown myself in potions even though I know they probably don't work.

Are you bothered about getting older?

Yes i hate getting old,I wish i stay at 25 forever or at least to the last day of my life << at least !:D

Seeing I am 40 in about 3 weeks time, thanks for reminding me. So far I am lucky, no grey hairs, although it will probably all be gone by the time I get them. Roll on grey pubes:D

We get older whether we fight it or not. I figure I'll save myself the stress and just accept it.

When I immerse myself in an activity so fully that I lose all track of time and worries, truly there isn't a lot of mental energy left over to monitor how I appear to others. But it has to arise naturally. Sort of an inner state of being that brings peace and fulfillment that is separate from the external environment.

So look inside at what actually gives you joy, and the good life may be closer than you thought. :P

Because concentrating on each present moment as a flow experience harmoniously directed towards a clearly-defined goal (high challenge matched by high skills) is the best antidote I know to anxiety, indecision, boredom, etc where the most constant struggles, like aging, become absolutely insurmountable....Cliched but true : Obsession with things and materialism is toxic to happiness. :)

Yeah I'm not a big fan of aging either, but its more to do with my life in this world coming to an end than looks. Seeing as how I was the fat kid in school and let others get to me I didn't have many fun teenage years, lost self confidence, anxiety, depression etc. Now its like I just want to enjoy myself and even though I thought originally staying young and doing fun stuff was the best I think with the different stages of age comes different ways of enjoying life, then again its all about the individual, if you think getting old sucks then it will.

This is the best post here i really like it.

I can't think of one good thing about getting old. The thought that my body is gradually worn and corroded away fills me with extreme hatred for the condition I am forced to accept invariably. This hatred stems both from pride, a will to live and dread. It is a very potent sort of hatred very often directed at all people who have ever opposed, oppose or ever will oppose human improvement and research.

I see it like this; as long as you feel good, still have that childish feel still, who cares about how old you are.

You speak in the first person saying that you want to do this and you want to be around to find out, but the problem is is that it isn't just you. If we could extend the human life 4 fold for everyone, that is a HUGE issue. If only one person or a handful do it, fine, but do you really think that only a few people would show such blind greed to live 'forever'?

Its not a have both proposition. Extend human life, the result is increased populations, which will cause many environmental problems and magnify all the current ones. I mean, death was created as a counter-balance for the world to be able to sustain itself. To conquer death is to conjure destruction. And besides rich people will be the ones to live longer, poor people's life span will remain the same or, more likely, even get shorter after we're done with them.

My grandmother had a plaque on her bedroom wall which read something like,
"Age is mind over matter.
If you don't mind, it doesn't matter!"
She lived into her 90's, btw.

If being 30 is OLD, what am I???? :D

Seriously, I thought 30 was old when I was in my twenties, but looking back, 30s were the same as my 20s--the difference was that I was married with kids.

Words of wisdom!!

Obsession with things and materialism is toxic to happiness. :)

I completely agree with this. But anxiety about aging has nothing to do with materialism, it has to do with continued existence. I feel as Derfel does. Every new wrinkle is a reminder that I'm more likely to become ill with every passing year, that I won't be around long enough to read all the books I want to read or learn all the languages that interest me.

I agree with Hezam, this is a very profound statement. It's pretty much my husband's attitude.

Yeah, it is serious. "Get busy living or get busy dying." But I highly doubt I would be more motivated if I knew I was going to live forever. Most people only stop wasting time when they get around retirement age. :p That's the big message I suppose.

When I was not yet in the teens, I thought the teens were olde;
When I was in my teens, I thought the tweens were olde;
When I was in my tweens, I thought the thirtyeens were olde;
When I was in my thirtyeens, I figured I was thirty years young;
When I am currently in my fortyeens, I thought I was plenty stupid during my earlier years. Then again, I think that I've been plenty stupid in my current years...

As Ford Prefect says in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, "Time is an illusion, Lunch Time is doubly so..." I believe that aging is also part of that illusion, because if we didn't acknowledge time, then aging wouldn't be a concern either. By acknowledging Time, you must acknowledge aging...

But then, since you all know more than I do, you should not listen or follow anything I write down or say.. :D
And if you do listen or follow what I say or write down, then you should know that you, too, will end up knowing less than everybody else around you :D

I think at 80 we've peaked and that should be the end of that.

Screw all of you, I want to live as long as Yoda.

Ha, i joined this forum when i was 19 and i am now 24.

TBH life is great for me right now, i'll be finishing college in a few weeks and the whole course has gone really well. I have bought a new house (although still waiting for the contract of exchange -_- ) and will be moving to a new area soon (Southampton) and i am really looking forward to it ^_^v .

I also feel like i look really good right now- most people seem to look about 19 years old (still getting ID'd too lol) and despite the inevitable changes in metabolism that happen as you grow older, i have managed to keep my figure slim & good ^_^ .

I'm getting more done in life than i ever have done, and despite the Year of the Tiger being a year of a LOT of adversities for me, i am looking forwards towards the future. With adversity comes new opportunities- the glass is half full ^o^ !

I was really gutted when i first 20, and for the next couple of years i felt depressed and in a rut (didn't feel like i was doing anything meaningful). But i picked myself up at the age of 23 and the age of 23 turned out to be the best age i have lived so far (even better than the age of 19, and possibly even 16); i went on an awesome holiday to America, i started college, and i sorted out lots of issues in general- and i'm hoping that the age of 24 will be an even better age to be (thinkings are really looking up right now) ^_^v !

A lot of people go on & on about your teenage years, always saying stuff like how they are the best years of your life etc (people in Japan seem to be particularly obsessed with teenage years -_- ). But they don't have to be. The teenage years are just the start, and if you play your cards right and be proactive with a positive attitude, then you will have many even better years to come. Your 20's is really the start to your life :) !

I don't mind growing older at all right now. Sure, i might feel differently when i turn 30- who knows. But i am who i am and i'm not going to be someone i'm not just because others may except it of me. So what if you still like jpop, beads, anime & stickers- age is just a number, be who you want to be! Life your life proactively and you won't regret wasting your years!
As long as i don't age prematurely, then i don't mind growing older at all ^_^v .

XD that yoda pic is awesome lol
im only 22 and going to college to be a music teacher so i cant wait for a few years to go by so i can be done with it already DX

Me and my friends carried shurikens and throwing knives into school and obliterated all the desks in our class with them. We got pissed in school and destroyed all the chairs we could find. Caught one of our classmates wanking in the toilet after an abstract art exhibition. Stole food from the nearby rednecks on a class trip and bought smuggled Ukrainian fags from a nearby worker. Been chased through the woods by gypsies. Spat coke with a straw at one of our classmates in a film theatre. Put a pig's heart in the bag of a classmate. My friend heated a metal pen and burnt my arm with it. Put a jelly-chicken thingy on the windscreen of a car in the summer and it subsequently melted and we got to witness the dude smearing the thing over the windscreen in an attempt to scratch it off. Went on a semi-naked (only wearing underwear) walk around town during a class trip while high, yelling and kicking fences and hiding in bushes from illusionary threats. Made a whip out of wires and a stick and whipped my friend with it. Set a huge wheel on fire and rolled it down a hill. Been chased by a pimp for messing with the hookers. Woke up after a night of drinking beside my friend just to have to decide whose vomit it was that covered the both of us, and all this stuff is just a small set of example. What I have now in university? Social games to maintain and improve status. Doesn't even compare.

Aside from the wrinkles, the fat and the aches and pains, being over 30 does have its advantages. I don't envy younger people who still have to go through everything I went through to achieve the financial and emotional security I can enjoy now.
