Getting Financial Assistance/Scholarships

anyone here knows anything about financial assistance or tuition fee reduction in japanese universities generally? I will be studying alone there, without any families or relatives in Japan. I have checked up some universities and realized that I need a guarantor who has a stable income. In this case, can the guarantor, who is my mother be overseas, not in Japan?

In order to get a student visa, I guess you have to show the government that you have financial support or a bank account with at least the equivalent of a million yen in it (this is the minimum amount that they estimate it would cost you to live in Japan for a year.. depending on your situation, it can easily cost more than that).

I've heard of tuition reduction of 50 or 100% for foreign students offered by public universities, but I think you have to check with the schools themselves on how to apply for that.

APU in Kyushu offers some scholarships up to 100% of tuition, but whether or not you should go there kind of depends what you want to study...
