Hi. I recently found this group online and wanted to see if I can get some answers to a couple of questions.
First off, i'm a gay male asian american (filipino-american to be more specific). I've actually been dating a japanese guy from japan for over the past month now. While we really are happy, I just realized that we will eventually have to confront some relationship questions in a couple of years regarding our future to be together, citizenship, and work.
He's here as on a student visa. I'm an american citizen. He says it may be difficult to get work in japan if he doesn't establish himself in a stable career after 30 years old. In the US, specifically in California, domestic partnership will not be enough to allow whoever i'm in a relationship with to get a green-card or whatever he needs to stay here. He's in college right now so the only way he'd be able to stay is if he got a job to get a working visa which is temporary.
As for myself, I was beginning to look into Japanese laws and policy. I haven't found much yet. I heard gay marriages aren't permitted. Do people know if a gay person can obtain citizenship in Japan still like through domestic partnership? Someone told me that it is also difficult to get a working visa in Japan as there is limited land in Japan and overpopulation.
Finally, I just graduated from college and have been non-profit and social justice work. Does anyone know about non-profit work, social justice work that I can get into, especially ones where I can survive with my English language? (I'm beginning to learn Japanese right now to better communicate with my guy) . Any help would be greatly appreciated.
