For some reason there are a lot of gaijins out there who have it in their head that gaijin is a negative condescending word. I had some guy tell me the other week that when every a Japanese uses the term Gaijin that he corrects them, and insists on being called gaigokujin, and I laughed my drink out of my nose.
I just want to tell anybody who might be confused about the 2, everybody in Japan uses the term gaijin. People who love us and hate us both us it so don't get fixated on what some silly book that is not relevent printed about the terms.
Before this post I did a survey of my own, asking all my Japanese friends about their opinions and they all agreed, they never use the term gaigokujin. They represent the elite in Japan as well, scientists and doctors and policticians.
So the next time somebody uses the term, don't go off on them just for the word.
From one Gaijin to others.

Threads like this are like the 98th chorus of "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall".

Are they? I didn't know that, I'm new to the forum but thanks for greating me with a graphic to show off your wits there buuuudy.

Well the guy who insists on being called gaigokujin told me this last week so obviously it was new to him. Now run along and show off your pretty graphics to somebody who will think they are cute.

I didn't great you, but I certainly grated you.

You give the appearance of not being F.O.B. How is it you didn't long ago get tired of the "gaijin" vs. "gaikokujin" thing as a topic of discussion?

(I've never heard anybody called a "gaigokujin".)

I've lived here for over 20 years Mike. But I see you're the typo police as well as the pointer of topics you're tired of.

Grate me? No, it's the net and there are many many people like you unfortunately. Quick check of your posts and I can see that you're not my kind of person there Mike. So unless this topic interests you move along and try to impress somebody who can't read you so easily.

Wow, whipping out the years in Japan penis on a topic like this? Sadly for you though I am pretty sure mike has you beat.

And do not really want to argue about this with you because I do not care either way, but I hear plenty of Japanese people using the word gaikokujin, or gaikoku no kata.

No, that would be Mike with his comment about fresh off the boat.

Sadly for you though I am pretty sure mike has you beat.

Why would that be sadly? Grow up.

I don't believe you for a second. I think you may have heard it used before, but you don't hear Japanese people using it as daily conversation when they are talking about gaijins. But I understand the need in people to see something on the net and miss the point and try to find something they can disgree with.

I was hoping for more from this site. Sadly there is you and Mike.

And I do not care what you believe. I talk with Japanese people in Japanese everyday and listen to them talk every single day. Gaijin, gaikokujin, gaikoku no kata/hito, they are all in the mix. It all depends who is talking and what the circumstances are.

I also understand the need some people on the net feel to let everyone know how their opinion is the right one.

Anyway you have been on this forum for what 2 hours? And you already talk about a member, who has contributed greatly to the forum, like you know all about him. Are you expecting some sort of warm welcome from everybody now?

Yes, when I said you give the appearance of not being fresh off the Boeing. I don't see how anybody could be here more than about a week and a half and not have been pontificated to over the gaijin/gaikokujin thing to the point of being sick of it, so I was surprised that you brought it up out of the blue.

"Gaigokujin" once is a typo. "Gaigokujin" four times leads one to wonder.

The only thing one can reliably determine from how long a foreigner has been in Japan is.....how long that person has been in Japan. Being here a long time is like being the tallest kid in the second grade. Since all you have to do is sit there longer than everybody else, in and of itself it is hardly an accomplishment.

Whipping out such an utterly meaningless number as a means to lend weight to one's position is a sure sign that the position is too weak to stand on its own merits. It is meant to cow others and hence it is not only argumentatively lame but also socially gauche bullying. I have always detested its use to establish some sort of gaijin pecking order.

Did I say I was sick of it?

Like I said Mike, I read some of your posts and you seem like a *****. It also seems like this is your place with the most posts and such and honestly I don't desire to hang out with you here so I've asked for my account to be deleted.

Have a nice night.

Don't forget your ball!

Ever notice how people who make a big show out of leaving forums tend to hang around?

Welcome to the forum Rube.

I am sure everyone will play nice once the noobness to the forum wears off...

I bet a lot of people think you're a p r i c k Mike. I certainly do and I've only read a dozen of your posts, and look at the number you have, that's a lot of power to turn people off.

Don't worry buddy, I'll be gone soon enough, but I don't mind telling a p r i c k that he is one.

I'll admit this though, I should have known better, facebook or forums, same stupid crap.

I am sure everyone will play nice once the noobness to the forum wears off...

The fact that Mike is an a-hole and I find the conversations here assinine, which is cool if your here to waste time, I was hoping for more and it's not here.

I just rolled a fattie Mike and I'm a bit sad because I was hoping that there was a cool place to talk to people who were more like me, successful middle aged men with families who were immersed in Japan a little deeper than "English Teacher" if you know what I mean. But there you are, the typical gaijin that I avoid in real life. I get that you've put a lot of time into making the relationships you have with the members here and I guess you feel pretty comfortable being an a-hole to anybody going by your posts. And you're not the only one, a lot of the posters here are nasty from what I've read. Not my vibe, not my thing.

So I'll finish my joint and relax with some scotch and you can perform for your audience buudy.

Sorry Rube, priceless gems like yourself are just too hard to come by these days I guess. Nothing like self appointed middle-aged gaijin gold... ahh your glory.. its too bright.. shining through my keyboard... All hail to you, all knowing and great one! Enjoy your successful life and that doobie, and all you risk for you and your family by smoking it here in Japan. What shining example you are for all foreigners. If only we could all be like you.

Wow, I wish now I had bothered to get immersed in Japan a little deeper than being an English teacher....(How did he manage to figure out what I do for a living?)

What all his guff boils down to is, "I thought I had found a place where I could pontificate to noobs and have them all be impressed by how long I've been here. But since I can't impress people with how long I've been here and that's all I've got I'll just take my ball and go home."

Except he was still here an hour and a half after making his second indignant exit!

Sorry, truck driver. lol. Damn boy you must have mad skills to get that job.

Not once did I think my time here would be impressive, only brought it up because you called me FOB, I have friends who have been here twice as long as me. What I did think or rather hope was to find cooler people than you, a truck driver in the ******* boonies, or some idiot Chidoriashi who says he doesn't "trust" Japanese women. Education center Chi? Come on call it like it is, English Teacher.

You guys fail to impress, sorry. Like I say, read some of your posts and this is a habit of yours, being rude and nasty to people for no reason. And you got this whole lame group dynamic thing going on, kind of cute but sad at the same time.

Living in Japan 20 years, then doing a survey of "elite" Japanese friends about a word that doesn't even exist in Japanese: "Excuse me, do you ever use the term 'Gai Goku Jin'?" = Priceless! :) Of COURSE they all replied, "Uh, no."

But hey, it's understandable we've ALL made (and still make) silly mistakes like that. For example, Pachipro's mistaken "Umeboshi Hoshii Desu" story comes to mind, and I personally was quite confident for many (embarrassingly many) years that "Just in case / To make sure" was pronounced, "Nendo no tame" ( = for the sake of Clay).

Rube brother, there's a solution, just start speaking only Japanese to your Japanese friends everyday, become more fluent, and more humble, create a new username, and rejoin the forum someday! :)

PS - As it happens, I recently posted a joke involving a Native American Peace Pipe helping to facilitate peaceful vibrations, but... one should definitely NEVER post (from one's personally identifiable IP address) that one tokes in Japan. All right, live and learn, grow and be well. And come back again someday friend! :)

Oh no more typo police. Maybe you guys never type K's as G's but I sometimes do for Japanese words but I'm not used to typing them in English, usually on my phone in Japanese. But thanks for catching the typo, the world wouldn't be save with out pressumptions and the typo police.

Steve my IP this morning is in L.A. and the net is heresay. Maybe you need to learn about vpns proxies and such.

I have lived more than 6 years of my life here.

Took about 2 seconds to find you "whipping out the years in Japan penis" except nobody was asking you in that conversation. Your posts are on par with Mike there, insulting people left and right, trying to act the big dog, which I take in your minds comes from your join date?

Trouble is , when you use sites that hide your true IP or sites that provide temporary E-Mail addresses when you join , it makes you wonder how truthful the member is about anything??

Uncle Frank

 :?

Not a problem for me Frank. I like my privacy. If you think by protecting my privacy that makes me less trustworthy then what can I say to ya, better not buy any bridges from me.

Wow, I wrote a kind, honest, and helpful post, and that's how you reply?

I don't think that it was a "typo" at all (c'mon, 4 times is not a typing mistake).

It seems to me there is a high chance that you SAID to your friends "gaigokujin."

Question: Do you speak mainly Japanese to your Japanese friends or mainly English?

PS - Posts lead to warrants, warrants lead to searches, searches lead to convictions.

PPS - Nevermind, pearls to swine, I shouldn't have wasted my time helping you.

PPPS - You lied about the "typing in Japanese" excuse: that results in ナ?Qナ津ェ窶ケテ・ツ人. What a rube!

I fully understand why Mike Cash, and other members, have no patience for stupidity and lies.

Steve your post was filled with attitude and assumptions, not sure how you wanted me to repsond to BS, with thanks?

Yeah, this post should have elicited something along the lines of, "Thanks for being so mellow and understanding."

So, you've been in Japan for 20 years, surrounded by elite Japanese friends, and there is absolutely no way that you mistakenly said gaigokujin in your survey, heaven forbid, excuse the assumption, you merely WROTE it that way 4 times because, uh, because you're used to writing in Japanese, and uh, you don't really need to differentiate between k and g when writing in Japanese, because when you type gaigokujin in Japanese into YOUR phone it magically becomes automatically converted to 外国人.

Dude, the bud you're smoking (whether in Japan or L.A.) is not good bud, the proof is in your attitude: you haven't become mellow, you haven't become introspective, you haven't become honest with yourself.

So, are you going to hang out here arguing, or are you going to delete your account?

Please, just type something rude to me. Have the last word. Then, thread closed: SayanGa!
