Foreign Exchange in Japan

Hey guys, I'm currently an exchange student living in Japan. I go to highschool, can speak Japanese almost fluently (I've been here for about 8 months now) and have a pretty good grasp of most things related to studying in Japan. If you're thinking about studying abroad in Japan, please feel free to ask me any questions you might have, I I'd love to answer them .

Did you just get there without any problems? Don't you need a specific amount of money to be able to study in Japan? Also, How do you feed yourself and house yourself?

I came here on the study abroad program AFS, I think it cost me about $10,000 overall and I brought about $2,000 worth of spending money with me. As far as getting here, AFS provided me with everything I needed, and even gave me an orientation about hwo to use chopsticks (lol) / ofuro / etc. I've been living with a Japanese family since I got here, and they've taken care of food / housing etc. AFS is really a wonderful program, you should definitely do it if you're under 18.

I'm 14. I would definately LOVE to do it, but I doubt my parents would let me go and I haven't even gotten to the spoken language yet, hell, I don't even have $10,000. I plan to come to Japan in 8 years.

You should see if you are eligible for any scholarships, and if you're not, since you're so young, try to get one! I know that at least 10 of the people who came from America this year came on scholarships, so keep that in mind at least :-D

Yeah, but again, I don't know how I would feed myself and I barely speak any Japanese. I can read 20/46 katakana right now, I'm working on it but how would I go about getting a scholarship? I would love to do it, but my Japanese is limited. Help me out here?

the best way to learn japanese language is make japanese friend.....go to california, LA many japanese there...dont be shy speak a bit. The first time i learn japanese is hanging around with all japanese group.....only japanese and they only speak like 5% english, then u should watch japanese movie not traditional with english subtitle or dramas......

You need to go to AFS's website, I think it's w ww. afs.co m . Anyway as far as feeding and housing goes, the $10,000 you pay is part of that. AFS organizes a host-family for you to live with, and organizes a school for you to go to, it's really a great program. As far as your Japanese goes, some people came here without knowing and hiragana or katakana. You learn fast, and its really easy to learn because you are surrounded by it all the time.

Hi there If you look for a master in Japan try Monbukagakusho scholarship. Moldavia can also apply as far as I know. Try ask the embassy of your country and they will give many information usually.
