Favorite Snacks

made of stone - That's an interesting article - I've never even heard of apricot seeds as a snack! Maybe we could use it more in the west to prevent cancer. The fat in the ingredients listed in the oil of the seeds is high in mono-unsaturated fat, which is a "good fat"!

Kinsao - I knew you were from England when you mentioned Marmite! I also love Marmite on toast (I was born in England!), but in the U.S. most people don't know what Marmite is! (It's a yeast extract, I think.)

Goldiegirl - Don't feel bad about unhealthy snacks - I just didn't mention the unhealthy ones I like: chocolate (which actually is thought of healthy now!), and cake with chocolate icing now and then ....

I like meat and fish for snacks...honestly, but as for a snackcandysnack, I like chocolate, cheese chips, Cola gummies with that sugar that makes your face go *naaaaaaarrggh*.

Isn't that funny everyone in Asia likes chocolate and then they always say owh the belgians make good beer and chocolate! :p

Well i like Chips/Crips as a good snack, but a packet of M&M's isnt also bad (=

sarapva - yes, indeed, Marmite is a yeast extract, and an extra-delicious one at that! They recently brought out a limited edition that was made using the yeast from the Guinness brewing process, can't wait to try that one! 😍

Kayo - thank you sir, you've reminded me of my favourite snacks when I lived in Japan and was hungry on the train platform - M&Ms (as well as Pretz) from the little kiosks there, along with my copy of the Japan Times to read - bliss! :)

I'll bet that's delicious! We probably won't get it here in the U.S. though - only in the last 15-20 years have we been able to get regular Marmite!

They did?!?! Oh I am missing out on so much being here! I *love* Marmite - most of my friends think I am strange because of it!
Must ask Mum to buy some of the special edition stuff so I can gorge on it when I go home!:liplick:

Better get your Mum on the case miss storey, they've been flying off the shelves and even been turning up on ebay for four times the price or more! (The curse of modern Britain is ebay it seems  )

Alas, I saw a whole stack in Waitrose as I wandered through a few weeks ago, having left my wallet at home. Just my luck! :(

Does anyone here dehydrate foods?

My husband is really into it and makes beef jerky all the time, but he just made dehydrated strawberries that came out very well.
They kind of taste like space food and have an interesting chewyness, but they are full of nutrients and very yummy.

I have a RONCO food dehydrater...yep bought it off a TV infomercial...a late night purchase, but I love it. I love dehydrated pears! They are so chewy, kind of like a fruit roll-up, but much easier to make. Oh, cantalope (spelling could be wrong) is also great to dehydrate. The best are home made raisins and then you make oatmeal raisin cookies! mmmm!

Thanks for you post Goldiegirl! Those informartial shows are very fascinating indeed.

Pears are one of my favorites, have never tried cantaloupe.. Dehaydrated mangoes, ginger are good, too. I always take some with me when I go hiking; they are light weight and great snack!

I like chocolate (Especially with peanuts in it), Jelly Beans and Kompeito.

misa.j, You mentioned you like dehydrated mangoes. Well, there are a lot of Mexican snacks that are dehydrated pinaples and mangoes covered with chili powder, you should try them. Just go if you can to a local Mexican store over where you live and get some of those and tamarindos. Really good, you should try Mexican spicy candy out.

... My daytime snacks usually involved some form of coffee.

Coffee is not a snack - it is a key food group! Just ask my Italian girlfriend, her parents even gave us an espresso machine as a housewarming gift!
My favourite snacks at the moment are these vege crisps which I get at Tokyo Mart here in town (don't know the name, have a dancing Potato on the front, potato sticks with real vege bits in 'em), and meat. Yeah I now, you are thinking "Meat a snack? what?", but I just got my first charcoal grill...flame grilled goodness!
