would you check my exercises for Lesson 5 Part 2?

② When I was very young, I became interested in the universe.

③ Today we are going to discuss Global warming. [discuss のあとはaboutは付かない]

④ Nobody knows the reason why the Earth froze over in that period. [period = 期間,時期]

⑤ The sudden death of my close friend Jane came as a great shock to me. [sudden = 突然の]

⑥ As an elementary school student, he liked to read about space. [as ~ = ~の時/頃]

⑦ Unfortunately, I never saw any whales while staying in Hawaii.

⑧ I once saw a bear in my neighborhood, which came as a surprise to me. [bear = クマ]

⑨ My grandfather used to run a business in this neighborhood.

⑩ A lot of dancers throughout the world were influenced by Michael Jackson.

⑪ As a child, he dreamed of getting a job driving trains.

Do you see any differences in these paris?:


2a. When I was very young, I became interested in the universe.
2b. I became interested in the universe when I was very young.


6a. As an elementary school student, he liked to read about space.
6b. He liked to read about space as an elementary school student.


11a. As a child, he dreamed of getting a job driving trains.
11b. He dreamed of getting a job driving trains as a child.


14a. To win first prize, you'd have to practice much harder.
14b. You'd have to practice much harder to win first prize.


15a. After entering college, I started learning Spanish.
15b. I started learning Spanish after entering college.
 
These are all fine.

There is no need to capitalize 'global'.

If I had written them, I would have made a few minor word or phrase changes here and there, such as "how people first arrived on these islands", but nothing you wrote is wrong, and all can be left as is.
