hey
well i'm not yet a monbusho scholar, but i afford to inquire about some details such as the university entrance exam for master (reserach/master for postgraduate)
-is it mandatory for all applicants?
-what does it contain?
-is it hard to pass

thank you all, your help is much appreciated

I'll be as brief as possible.

-It is mandatory. On very rare exceptions will you find a professor or department is willing to let you join the master's program without some sort of examination.

-what it contains depends on what you want to study.

-I can't give you any input on this.. I am very sorry.

the matter is i'm studyng civil engineering and i wish to apply for master in management.so i do really need a background in management isn't it?no way i could pass without it?

Hi, I have just complete my Entrance exam, anxious whether I could pass it or not.
I don`t know that exactly you want to know because your data is too little. However, as far as I know, if you intend to learn in Japanese, then you may have to take Entrance exam. The contain of entrance exam is different by which University and which Department, which program you wish to study. Normally, Entrance exam have 2 round: Round 1 - Writting (test your English skills,ツ knowdlege about field you intend to study). If you pass round 1, then you go to Round 2 - Interview about your Research Plan.
ツ ツ About how hard the Entrance exam is, I think, it depend on your program, your University. If you choose famous University like Todai and popular program, it will be touch. However, if there is a unknow private University, it may be too easy. Even in my University, the Entrance exam of some Graduate school is easy, some was diffcult (just my own opinion).
What do you mean when you said management? Is it MBA program? Since my major is Economic, I can say that with MBA program you may have any background (at least you have special skills), it only a little hard with peopel major in language. A manager can be in every company from production to service, so there is no need to care about background.
Anyway, all of my experience is about Master program in Japanese. I heard that some master program in English does'nt need to take Entrance exam (cause they check your ability before grant scholarship) or just need to take Interview. Don't know whether it true?

well my major is civil engineering .and i want to go on master different from what i've been studying ,which is whether MBA or a master in finance.the matter is that i don't have a strong background in ,for example,in finance .so my question is :does the entrance exam treats of in-dephts problems in finance?
N.B :my research subject is intended to be in civil engineering.

I took exam in Master of Finance (in Japanese) and of course the content is deeply in Finance. However, MBA is just general questions and I think you can handle it.
I don`t know much about another program is Japan but in US, I think you can learn both Master in Finance or MBA with engineering background.
However, I heard that MEXT didn't allow you to change major which you applied during Scholarship apply process. For example, my major is economic so I can switch from Master in Finance to MBA. But if your major is engineering, it will be difficult.
I think the best way is apply for major Engineering with a RP related to Finance or economic.

Hey there lucky me it is nice hearing that you indeed approved your entrance exam

I am a applying for a Mext scholarship also (have a BS in Finance) and want to get a masters in Finance/Economics I've applied to Kobe, Keio and Hitotsubashi.

The point is that I have no previous knowledge of Japanese nor kangi so I am a little worried about the exams (eventought we are supposed to get 6 months of Japanese language classes)
I understand that Kobe is the only university that has an English program from the three that I got a LoA

I wanted to ask you which university you are attending, if your test was Japanese only? is your program Japanese only? What are the standard questions in a FInance exam (I suppose is something with actuarial math, CAPM, Porfolio Theory, time series ans something else right?)

Please let me know

Thanks in advance!!!!

Greetings from Bolivia

Dear All,
I am an International Research Student. Came in Japan under MEXT scholarship for Masters course. SO far I know that in Japan Masters and PhD courses are conducted in English. But now I got information from my professor that the courses will be taken in Japanese. He also told me that the entrance exam question will also be in Japanese. I have completed 4 months intensive Japanese course with good grade. But I know it does not make me to read and understand Japanese books and lectures. Now What should I do?
N.B: I am to sit for Entrance exam on next January.
