Downtown's batsu games, are part of the "Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende". In these games one or more of the cast members participate in after losing bets, major games, or physical challenges.

They for example have Matsumoto being in a haunted house for 24 hours, and he is being scared for 24 hours by Samurai , ghosts, and knocking on the wall.

The not allowed to laugh batsu games... Don't laugh in the police station, or the latest special don't laugh in the Hospital.

For a whole list of their batsu games check here:

Here are some You tube clips from their latest batsu game ( for most parts you don't need any Japanese to understand what's going on)

I was actually planning to make a topic about 'Gaki no tsukai ya arahende' one of these days but seems you were quicker than me ! I absolutely love the concept. Actually, if you really know Japanese culture you would even love it more because very often traces of famous sitcoms or anime are used in one of their games which makes it even more hilarious (if you know them). And many times there's also a lot of contradiction with the traditional Japanese culture. For example, how Hamada is treathed (the food-sharing situation) in the 24 hours tag. Although Hamada is the 'senpai' (oldest member which should be respected) he's been bullied by all members. Another example is how the producer of downtown (the little guy with glasses) is being rediculised.

I recently saw the complete high school episode (with the english lessons and the 'Hard Gay' scene) from youtube but I was just checking it back and seems like Nippon tv already removed them.

I especially have good memories from the 24 hours tag game. I watched it on DVD this summer in Japan together with my host brother.

btw, 1 vote to make this thread sticky !

That indeed was a very funny moment.

My favorite Batsu game is also the tag game, the reason for that is that it has different methods of punishment, while in the non laughing games you only have one kind of punishment.

Especially when the children have to sit with their butt on one's face and when they have to watch a slide-show movie 👍

I find it hilarious that people making millions of dollars are put into these weird situations.

It looks like these specials are an annual event so I'm looking forward to what the Yoshimoto gang cook up next year.

I know this is a bit of an old post now, but I've only just come across it now!
I love the batsu games, and was just wondering if anyone knows if there are any DVDs of the games..? Bit of a slim chance, really..
