Question Does Japan have mandatory voting?

I know that certain countries like Brazil or Australia have enforced voting (as in you have to vote) otherwise fines can be issued. The thing is, is voting mandatory in Japan during elections when selecting a new Prime Minister or does it remain optional? (This does not concern you if having a PR since this only caters to actual Japanese citizens, since you're not eligible to vote anyway whilst living under PR or any visa)

No, not mandatory. Also prime ministers aren't elected by the general public under a parliamentary system.
