Well i have to say chinese and japanese DOESN'T look the same!! i've nothing against chinese people(please dont understand me wrong) but from my point of vision japanese people are far more different then chinese people, again i'm speaking of women/girls. The men they do look a bit same but then again if you watch for every detail they look different. Does a cat and a dog look the same? No, their both animals but they aren't the same.

I have always been taught that chinese and japanese and koreans all look slightly different, maybe very beautiful some of them but the eyes are different from race to race.

You can see some difference I think. But China is a very big country and so there are also different type of Chinese.
But the Japanese from the north of Japan also looks different from the southern Japanese.
It is very difficult to say from where you come for us Europeans, unless someone studied this subject.
Very interesting!

it is difficult to tell apart sometimes, but there might be subtle differences:?
but all us asians look alike!!!

I'm guessing to a trained eye (someone who spends time around Chinese and Japanese people) they can make a distinction but if I were to walk down the street and call a Chinese person Japanese over vice versa It would be an honest mistake and I'm sure it happens often in Europe and I know it does in the U.S. I have an Asian person in my class who I assumed was Chinese until I found he was Vietnamese.

I've never really heard of the difference between southern and northern Japanese. Is there really a significant difference? To me they look pretty the same (well, maybe southern ones have darker skin tones, but who knows...)

Here's how I (try to) tell them apart: (J=japan, K=korea, C=china, T=taiwan)
J women: usually have chapatsu, on average maybe a little shorter in status , though I cannot speak with any meaningful stats... never wears any prescription glasses
K women: usually have curly, black, gelled hair
C women: usually wear glasses. Tend to have stronger facial features
T women: look very similar to J women, but maybe a bit taller overall. I find it quite difficult to tell J women from T women at first glance.

J men: usually have longer hair, sometimes with well groomed beard
K men: usually slightly taller than J men. Very often with glasses. Stronger built bodies.
C men: usually shorter hair (shaved hair), no chapatsu
T men: usually longer hair, no beard or mustache

They do look different. I often can tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese people.......honestly.
