Dir en grey

I believe it's Die's birthday tomorrow... and I heard he will be 31 (yay! there's still hope for me! XD)... so advancely in honor...

Happy birthday Die!

I found some intresting stuff on Wikipedia about Kyo while looking at the band members birthdates

"He remains partially deaf in his left ear after a prolonged sickness in 2000."

~ Kyo once fought with his family and said he was going to leave home. His grandfather/father (depending on which variation of the story) told him to leave his clothes behind because he did not pay for them, upon which Kyo stood outside in the cold for hours before his parents apologised.

~ Kyo likes and is good at swimming (one of the stranger rumours)

~ Kyo was once hit on the head with a fire-extinguisher by a friend

~ Kyo hates being called 'Kawaii' and once broke a staff-member's nose for calling him that

~ Kyo nicknamed his penis 'PP.'

I think the one about him being called kawaii is true because I saw a clip where he was doing an interview someone called him kawaii and he got a pissed look on his face.

lol, "stranger"? That strikes me as a (relatively) "normal" rumour... why shouldn't the guy enjoy a swim?

~ Kyo was once hit on the head with a fire-extinguisher by a friend

hehe, was that deliberate? Poor Kyo... they're heavy... :auch:

Ah yes... I can imagine that very well.

Happy Birthday! (I'm too tired to make up a dance :snore: )

...and happy birthday to drain_away since they are soulmates and have the same birthday!

I can't help you uploading it Doll.

Just wanted to to confirm I think this band is kick-***

Really good Guitar and Bass Riffs by Toshiya, Die and Kaoru and Die has a great singing voice too (though I only understand about 5% of the lyrics , but thats beside the point) Shinya I dont have any points on because I really dont interest me so much for drums, though it is an important weapon in a rock band.

Hiya Da Monstar! nice to see more Dir fans...
lol I think you mean Kyo's voice... and who needs to understand lyrics!
I like the way you call the drums a weapon... hehe... I don't know anything about the technical side of playing drums either, but Shinya seems pretty damn good to me.

Awesome live pictures, Kinsao (I know, I'm way behind...it's the first time I've checked this thread out). Is it wrong for me to want to play with Kaoru's hair...?

Of course not! It's a mighty good idea!

American Release

Dir en Grey finally releases their album in the U.S. whoohoo. Yay! But alot of people I know already have "Withering to Death". But if they are releasing an album that means they finally will tour. THANK YOU. But I wonder if they are working on some new singles or a new album. I mean Withering to Death is kind of old in Japan and In Europe. I hope they aren't concentrating on crossing over that they aren't making new music.

I can see Dir en Greys checklist it probally goes something like this:

Japan (check)
Asia (check)
Europe (check)
U.S.A
Canada
South America
THE WORLD

lol So I guess this is the BIG SURPRISE they were talking about in the interviews or maybe it is something else.

Although I am kind of scared of the American Media. The European Media except for a few interviews I didn't like how they potrayed them. AND ANYONE in the USA should know our Media can be a *****.

OH Well Dir en Grey Ganbatte, And If you come anywhere on the East Coast or South. It is gauranteed I will be at your show. And if you tour the West Coast first, I am already doing some major money saving, and plotting of a way to get my boss to give me the necessary time off.

I already have Withering to Death too damnit... I'll give my copy to my friend and buy the America cd/dvd release for myself

I am happy but I am sad as well... this means Diru will possibly be *gulps* mainstream

Oh, dude. I love Diru, loved for years though my mom thought I'd like them for 2 months and then forget them... Ha ha mommy *-* Ok gomen I'm feeling odd today XD;

And it makes me THIS sad to think that Diru will go a bit mainstream. Just ... not pretty ;o; I still wish I could get the American version of WTD, though I live in Europe. I have just the Japanese version -__- [at least I think it's Japanese, since it's ordered from there ]

I agree that individually they're not the best of musicians but together as a band they work really well. Mikami-san from Fra-Foa was the driving force behind the band. She created the lyrics, composed the music and was their vocalist. Her two other band members, the drums and bass, weren't all that remarkable.

You would think that going solo, she should be just as successful or even more so now that she can work with different instruments and styles right? Well, no. At least in my opinion. Her voice seems to lose it's strength to the new musicians working with her.

Many singers do become successful after going solo (eg. Gackt), but I think what makes a good band isn't about each member's talents. Sure, they need to be up to par with their skills as musicians, but more importantly they need to be really tuned into each other and to simply 'fit' for lack of a better work.

They aren't spectacular musicians in terms of playing super-flashy solos etc.
To me, their greatness lies in the composition - the way they put the songs together.

Hmm... I am shocked that you guys don't think Diru are good musicians! I think that Shinya is a great drummer, and Toshiya is a great bassist. Die and Kaoru are decent at guitar, a lot better than most guitarists I'd say. They have definitely improved, but most muscians do especially if you are playing for hours every night on tour. I am a musician and have been for over a decade and I think that Diru individual, or as a band are quite talented song writers and musicans.

oh, I do think that they are good musicians. But they don't show it off in such ways with extra fast solos etc like some people...

The best musicians don't need to show off! haha that's how I think at least.

oh yeah - I agree.
It seems to me obvious that musicianship is as much about composition and expression as about who can play the fastest.

yeah i agree wif rynn..even though they change their style always but all their songs have that distinct diff. it's dir en grey's special style that makes you know immediately that it's diru and not other bands. one day i heard someone playing a song when i walk past the shop and just by the opening music and drumming style(kyo didn't start to sing yet), i immediately knew it was diru even though i'm not familiar with that song..i don't know if anyone ever experienced it? ☝ shinya's drumming is also very special and diff. that's y i like them so much ..um..i know every band is diff and special in it's own way, but sometimes the most distinguishable sound is in the vocalist itself(like sometimes i need to hear the vocalist voice to know which band that unknown song is from)..but with diru,i dont hav to hear kyo's voice to know it's a deg song. um ..well, feel free to disagree wit me if anyone wants, but that's just my opinion on diru for myself, it doesn't mean that others feel the same as me

yeaaa rika-shinya thats exactly what i was tryin to say~!! u can tell its them even tho its sumfin u havnt heard before... which is what makes them good~!! totchi ish soo love!!

I have a question regarding Dir en grey songs. There are a lot of songs that I'm not familiar with and I can never find any information on them. I don't know if they are really Diru songs or not, and if they are, I'd like to know what they were from.
I have two songs; Sea of Retards is one, what in the heck is this from and when was it done? Scars is the other and it doesn't sound like Kyo. And two songs I don't have; Psycho and Rain.
I would also like to request a couple songs as well. I have Waza (Karma) from [KAEDE] ~if trans...~ and I have heard Sangeki no Yoru (Tragedy Night), but I don't have that one.

Some people may not think they are "the best" as musicians, but I do and that's all that matters to me. Their style is great [-er, -est], and I think I have never heard more talented bassist than Toshiya. There are many musicians, who play [almost] as well as him, but I don't know how someone could say he's not good. As mentioned already, the best ones don't need to show off ;3

@Normphobic - i encountered the same problem too! i figured the best way to find out if it's really a diru song or not is to go to the official site and check the discography..and yeah, i downloaded scars too because i've never heard of a diru song with that title and i was thinking the same thing..like what this is not kyo's voice..so i deleted it and have no intention watsoever to find out who did that song x.x i felt like i'm being cheated on..just not that serious ^^;

i agree too! that the best doesn't need to show off because everyone already knows that =P gah..this sentence has been repeated so many times

Normphobic: Two days ago I was watched X on youtube!
I know that because I watched it! Scars is from X!

- YouTube

edit:Sorry... not just Toshi sings in it....hide tooooooooo!

I had already checked their official site and searched the web before asking on here. I found a clip of Psycho and it is TAIYO NO AO. That's odd, since TAIYO NO AO doesn't come anywhere near the word psycho in translation! Thanks for the help, and for Sangeki no Yoru!
