Dir en grey

Yeah for rock music. Urgh could kerrang possibly p*ss me off any more than they already do?

CD- yeah I read reviews and comments and stuff about it online and everyone seemed to love it. I'd be elated if you went ahead with the magazine

So alot of people are disappointed with the direction Deg are heading in, like the image and music. We all know they've lost fans. What do you guys think?

It's supposed to be an alternative music magazine... and used to be quite good. The problem is, with the rise of emo in the Uk especially Kerrang! have found themselves a nice little way of making money... ie covering all the emo bands that are popular at the time and leaving most of the actual underground stuff uncovered. Their reviews are based on public opinions not musical integrity... and Metal Hammer (the better magazine we had) is heading in the same direction! ::le sigh:: when will this madness end!
 
As for the direction they're heading in... I know they get a lot of criticism but I like Marrow of a Bone (hate Agitated Screams... ) but the albums is good... and so much better than I expected!

i'm not really disappointed in the direction that they're going in. I know that they always make good music. My friend is a little disappointed but she's still a fan. The only thing i'm not so crazy about is the english lyrics they're starting to use more an more
 
I've been a jrock fan for almost one year now and I got to know Dir en Grey maybe half a year ago so I don't really know their 'old' image. Of course I saw pics and some of their old videos and I heard the old songs (although I still can't remember the names ), but I think it's something different to really see that in 'real time' (I hope you know what I mean^^). I can see and hear the differences, but I also think that there's no band, who never ever changed. Changes can be something good and speaking of Diru I don't think their music changed really dramatically!! I like both, the 'old' and the 'new' Diru and I'm excited what will come next!!^^
 
Yeah I think everyone is wondering what other directions the band will be heading in. I liked MOAB too, but obviously not everyone liked every single song though. I think it's great that they're experimenting with different styles and BlackSoul you're right about change. If they stayed the same it would just get boring.

But is there anyone who prefers the 'VK' style or the new image? Or do most of you like them equally and don't seperate the two?

hmmm I really really really liked MOAB......like SERIOUSLY like it...

I really liked their VK style, but I also really like the style they have now... whatever they decide to do, I'm ok with just as long as their music is still good
 
As for style... I like both VK and their style now ... they're very different... but thats not to say ones better than the other.

As you say Amita so long as the musics still good... who cares what they look like!

hmm...well I like both of their styles, too, although I have to say that I miss Die's red hair and I think that Kyo looks now better than before...but their music is first!!(okay I admit that I'm drooling over some Toto pics sometimes!!)
 
andie yeah same for me except in 20 going on 21 hahaha but i thik im going to act like this for a very long time even if ppl keep telling me i need to grow up..they can just shut that gaping hole in there mouth ^_^

I don't understand why people hate it so much because it's an amazing album, no doubt. Sometimes I feel like people just wont let themselves like 'new' Dir en grey. :52:

Even with this 'new' Diru, you can still pick out the element that MAKES them Diru so in a sense they haven't changed.

I don't think there is such a HUGE difference between the 'old' and the 'new' diru. As a musician you always express your feelings and experiences in your music. Of course they got older and maybe feel a little bit differently than before and make other experiences but it's still their character that has a great influence on their music and you can hear that. Even if you dress and behave totally different, your character will always be there and come out. (Or as we learned in school this year: No matter how much you will change or how you will behave, everything is in you from the beginning, it just needs to be brought out^^). Noone can change his/her character, no matter how hard you try, so their music can't be that different!!!

i agree... i like just Dir en grey. i like everything they've done. it bothers me when people say that they are HUGE DIR EN GREY FANS when they only like Gauze, because thats a TINY FRACTION of what Dir en grey is... and yes Dir en grey is a very liquid band: they've been changing and flowing in different directions since they started together and as they're famous for, the never make the same album twice. thats part of why i like them so much :3

i saw that they were moving towards what MOAB became through their direction in albums and singles prior, but now i have no idea which way they are going @_@ so im really excited to see!

also, i think the change is why they a touring so much outside of japan; they lost a lot of japanese fans, so now they are trying to build a non-vk audience
 
dakkii Do you think they moved away because they changed or changed back they moved away? I'm not entirely sure the motive is that clear. It does seem very much like dropping VK was at attempt to have a more mature image and thus stand a better chance of breaking other countries.

I know a lot of Japanese artists want to try and break outside Japan. There are western artists known to all but the same does not apply for Asia. Dir en grey probably stand the best chance of achieving that!

You just nicknamed RBY the same name as my cat!!! ^_^

dakkii's right, it was kinda obvious what direction they were going in ever since Vulgar and maybe even some of Kisou. No matter what they do though, you always know it Dir en grey. They're always going to be true to that distinctive sound.

Dir en grey was the first jrock band that I started listening.
Hm, I can't tell which period I like more, I like their all music. But some of their MOAB songs can give me a little headache. But I haven't heard them all so I can't really tell.
 
I've always seen Dir en grey as an american band with improvements. (I don't generally like american rock bands)

So, their recent, and more american style, music isn't really my bag, HOWEVER, i'm not going to stop being a fan.

As someone said earlier, Diru are a very liquid band, their style is always changing, and i'm sure they will change again.

I'm too interested to stop listening.
 
i want diru to grow and being exposed to bands overseas performing with them will make them a better band..they cannot test their talents and capabilities if they will stay in japan only and overseas exposure helps them not only their careers but themselves as well,as musicians they gain exprerience

Hey I'm new! I've been reading this forum for a while now. And I have some qeustions/things to say.... xD
Well. I'm not new to deg. I'm a total die hard fan And I was wondering since like Marrow came out, does japan even bother with them anymore :? I've heard alot of rumors, but i've never got around to looking it up. I know they are going on a "Dozing Green" tour there soon... :O can someone fill me in? I feel so behind xD
anyways. I could talk about them all day
 
MANRYKYRO: I was wondering that, too. Since they will tour Japan, I think of how the people over there will react. I don't know much of DEG, but I know that they went into a complete new genre from their older days.
