Dir en grey

Hello friends,

i am new at this forum and i hope you can help me with my problem.

A girlfriend of me wants to paint "Dir En Grey" in japanese letters on the wall of her new room.
But I can't find anywhere Dir En Grey in japanese letters...

Has someone a graphic or picture, where the bandname is written in japanese letters? this is important because at the moment I can not install a language package. So a picture would be wonderful.

There are no graphics or pictures of "Dir En Grey" in Japanese letters because the band name is supposed to be in english.

The band name is: Dir en grey

Just like that. (only the first word is capitalised )
 
Actually, "Dir en grey" is written in katakana on the packaging for the "Jealous" single. Unfortunately, I can't get a good picture of it; it comes out too blurry since it's written so small.
 
In katakana? would it be デルエングレイ？
Not sure if the Japanese would pronounce the beginning as "diru" or "deru"
though....i'm not even sure if the have the sound for "di" lol
 
Actually, it's ディル アン グレイ .

The "de" followed by the small "i" is pronounced "dee." So the name, technically, is pronounced "deer ahn grey," even though most people (including me) say "dur in grey."
 
ah...so they say it as "dehru ahn gurei"....puahah I say "deer en grey." I never liked saying "dur" Just one of those words that just don't sound right coming out of me.

But arg translating english words into katakana is hard because I have no idea how Japanese people would say it. Like the "e" sound for "a" for example. I would say "en" but they say "ahn"

Well keep in mind that "dir" and "en" aren't English words, so they probably pronounce them like... whatever language they're from.

German and French?
 
Aha well I pronounce Dir en Grey in french =_= *is from a french speaking town* Like I roll my Rs....if Diru would hear it, they would probably laugh....
 
Is anyone else not really liking Marrow of the Bone?
Don't get me wrong, I love that they've come to america and expanded and are getting so much respect and popularity...
but their new CD has done nothing for me. Withering to death- eh....
but....right now I just wish they'd do another Gauze.
 
@VainForbidden: MOAB took me a few listens to really get into it. I personally liked Vulgar and Kisou the best but I don't think they'll be going back to those sounds any time soon. Each album just seems to progress away from the previous one.

they won't do another gauze, but i'm not a huge fan of MOB. i think even WTD or Vulgar was done better than MOB. it's not a bad album, but in my opinion lacks some passion. i don't know if passion is the right word, it's missing smth but i don't know how to describe it.

woa, the Mii leader sama looks exactly like the real dude.

i pronounced it too in a french fashion... dir en grey such a cool name very catchy i wondered who coined that name

they just came up with the name together.
it's supposed to mean "Coin of Grey/ Grey Coin", since En is like "Of" but Dir doesnt mean "Coin" in german.......
 
Okay... I just read that Kyo was married and had a kid... what?! I've never in my life heard this... are people just being idiots or am I that ignorant?
 
I think the whole "grey coin" thing was wrong, because the word "coin" isn't anywhere in the band's name. The latest translation for "dir en grey" that I've heard is "to you, in grey."

Also, Marrow of a Bone is easily my favourite Diru album -- it only took a few listens for me to realise that. There's plenty of passion and a wide range of emotions, it just seems like people can't get past Kyo's screaming and growling. Some songs that are obviously emotional are "Conceived Sorrow," "Namamekashiki ansoku, tamerai no hohoemi," and "The Pledge." But one line in particular that gets me all the time is in "The Fatal Believer."

"Please grant me my small wish/骨の髄まで愛してくれ"
which translates to:
"Please grant me my small wish/love me to the marrow of my bones"

The first half of that is sung in Kyo's soft falsetto, then he launches into his distinct rabid bark for the second half. It's pretty amazing; I imagine someone faced with extreme desperation just from the way Kyo sings that line alone. Marrow is an amazing album.
 
@Yoko: I'm pretty sure people are just being idiots.

As for the whole name-meaning thing, I'm confused- hasn't the band been saying recently that "dir en grey" doesn't mean anything in particular, they just liked the sound of it? Unless everyone's just contemplating what it COULD mean if it does have meaning...but yeah, I've heard lots of different things as well so it's hard to say.

And I also rather like The Marrow of a Bone. Saishu, I agree, that's a great line. Do you know Japanese or did you find translations somewhere?
 
Michiko -- I studied Japanese for two years in college. After that I pretty much just started trying to teach myself. I don't know the language well, but I pretty much have the basics nailed down. When it comes to translations I just try my hardest to understand them then, when I can't, I look for words in the dictionary and try to piece them together so they make sense. It can be especially frustrating trying to translate Kyo's lyrics, but it's also fun at the same time.
 
haha, I imagine his lyrics would be hella frustrating. I seriously admire you for trying. XD I never took classes or lessons, but I did used to know a fair bit more than I do now (college gets in the way of any of my own "independent studying", unfortunately) Anyway, I was just asking in case there was a site you could refer me to for the translations that I didn't know about. Oh well X3;

i know, thats why i said "Dir" doesn't mean coin. but i'm pretty sure the official chinese translation of the band was "Grey Coin" a long time ago. but it's been too long i don't know if they still use it, or was it me who remembered it incorrectly.

and regarding MOB, i'm not saying it's bad, but when i compare it to my favorite Vulgar it lacks something. i even said that i'm not sure if "passion" is the correct word to describe the missing something that i feel of. BUt again, maybe it's just me who feel this way.
 

It's a definite fav of mine too. I love the emotions in it but I'm also a lover of heavy metal, so his screams and growls adds on to my liking

I agree. I mean I guess at first I was like yeah I like their old stuff. But I like their new stuff too now, you know? I guess I never realized how cool it is that they change and never stick to the same thing twice. That would be really hard to do!!!
 
about the name thing, I find it interesting that some people say its a play on the title "Dorian Grey". I don't know how similar they would sound when said in Japanese but there are certainly similarities when said in english (or the respective language it came from). It's most likely conjecture but the book itself was about the darkness and vileness of human nature so I think it suits them well hahaha.
 
does anyone know if they will do another north american tour in the near future?(is hopeful)

regarding MOB, its ok imo....not the best, but definately enjoyable. i also liek the fatal believer
