def in Japan: a comic diary

Davey, I think most of the newer generation will get it. I don't think the older generation ever felt bad for being angry at a kid.

There was a time when I thought I would never be able to drive in this country.
I don't get what you mean, in relation to the strip you quoted.

Some sort of error somewhere. It was meant to go with the "Few Things are Genuinely Terrible" strip.

Ahh. I can get the international license, but buying a car seems like a hinderence at the moment; I'm saving to invest in a house, and a car would be a massive cash-suck. Maybe in the future I will though, it would make going to Costco a heck of a lot easier.

For the record, I love subways, I hate buses.

So happy, but so chubby.

How could you tell I had nothing to do? I bet it was the pants.

lol... it's just what I always day when I have nothing to do... eat while sitting behind my computer and walk back to the fridge again over and over again... not speaking of the other things you/I/we might do.

anyway keep them up. Any new years version of your comics?

I just discovered your blog and I think it's brilliant. Drawing isn't bad and the themes are so relevant. I don't know if you can make money doing this, but keep it up as long as you can. You tube pays for this stuff doesn't it?

Thanks both. No plans to live off this stuff at the moment, but I just want to regularly draw to get the art a little tighter. The last two pages were a little sketchier, because of, well, see the next strip.
I'm continuing, I think I can manage three a week, with other comic work and real life balanced together. I've almost posted my backlog of strips, and will soon be posting them as they get done.

My first full Japanese funeral:

The end of 2012...

Ouch. Seems like a point in favor of doing Remembering the Kanji

Kobukuro is written コブクロ, so I don't know if kanji helps. It's actually one where vocab and grammar lets you puzzle through it.
