Current Clothing Trends for Japanese Teens?

Hello! I am a new member of the forums.
I am interested in the popular fashions of Japan. I was just wondering if anyone could describe to me the current fashions for teenagers. Thank you very much for reading my question!

Yeah, maybe you should try to find some up to date pictures of pop idols? People usually model themselves after celebrities...

Alot of girls now are going for an Avril Lavine wanna be punk girl look. Hipster yet baggy jeans, tank tops, belts and armbands for instance.

there's also this weird style where girls will wear long jean/khaki shorts with fishnet stockings and low-heels. It's the weirdest thing. i think there was a news report a few weeks ago on the current trends.

haha, there's also the mamba trends: use tanning lotion to make yourself look almost dark brown, use white markers on your lips, put stickers and crap on your face and color your hair white/pink/whatever. And there's no difference between guy-girl clothes...they just buy whatever is cute.

Basically stop and think about all things pop music related. Backstreet Boys are huge here, along with Hillary Duff, Britney Spears, and Avril Lavigne. They know all about them, but I've yet to meet a person who has heard of any of the bands I like. (Punk/Rock really aren't too popular amoung the kids at my school.)

As for fashion. Well I can only tell you about where I live, which is near Nagoya. The girls here do NOT wear hipsters. They think my pants are really low cut...and they are the average teen wear at home. Basically no skin showing at your waist is the norm here...so I shocked my host family a bit when I first came here. They are big on layering shirts...hmm...what else. The fashion reminds me of the 80s and early 90s with the odd modern twist.

Agreed. Gahk it REALLY annoys me when I ask a girl what music she likes and she says punk and I ask what bands and get 'Avril, Busted, McFly and Sum 41'. Oh the hate I feel at that time.

The hipsters and a slitrher of stomach are just slipping into Tokyo now.
Agree with the alyered shirts thing, which can be annoying with the 19 year olds when... you know. Stuff.

Japanese teens get their atire because they want to copy American Idols that aren't any good at all but they are supported by some of the most coporate monopolies in America??

Well, Avril is not much of an Idol, although i do like one of her songs, but the rest are bad.

Perhaps these Japanese teens are unaware of most of the real popular music in America not the ones adored by "paid" teens on MTV.
Perhaps they are blind to the reality of what we americans think.
I think if Japanese teens were to go to Hottopic.com they would find interesting things to wear.

Girls at my school love 80's and early 90's stuff. SOME of it I don't mind, Such as the layer of thin shirts and cool jewellry, but if you, like me, hate old lady jeans and vests-over-sweaters, you're in for an unpleasant surprise.
However I do love some young women's fashions, from soft colors and fabrics to vitage-rock.

I'm sorry but what are "old lady jeans"...? Are those the ones that go narrower and narrower towards the ends? Carrot jeans? (the opposite of flared jeans) Thank goodness that thing never caught up really well... ^^; I would never wear them anyway. They suit maybe 9% of women because only really tall and thin people (possibly) look good in them.

I meant slightly baagy and shapeless, faded looking, high waist...things. But I do love some fashion here, such as the thin layering.
