I didn't say it was a major factor, I said I think it's a significant factor.
It all comes down to the R0 value and everything that feeds into it.

It seems that Tokyo is etching closer to a new alert.

The three criteria that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government had established for activating or deactivating a Tokyo Alert were whether in the most recent week, on average, newly infected people numbered fewer than 20 per day; the percentage of newly infected people whose route of infection could not be determined was lower than 50%, and the ratio by which infected people increased in a week was less than 1.

As of June 25, Tokyo's novel coronavirus situation is as follows:

• 38.9 newly infected people per day (24th: 55, 25th: 48, 26th: 54)
• 43.4% of newly infected people without clear infection routes
• infection ratio of 1.19

I'm supposed to start commuting to a Tokyo client in July and I am very reluctant to do so.

Meanwhile, the international business community is putting pressure on Japan to ease travel curbs on foreign residents. International business organisations call the restrictions discriminatory.

"European businesspeople based in Japan cannot travel to Europe to meet their customers," for example, said Mroczek. Japanese nationals, on the other hand, are eligible to return to Japan even after a business trip abroad. He rejected arguments that the measure to ban re-entry of foreign nationals was to contain the virus's spread. "Japanese citizens can [also] bring [the] virus to Japan. This doesn't appear to make sense to European businesses here," Mroczek said. Other foreign business groups are voicing similar criticism. "The prohibition currently in place on the entry into Japan of foreign nationals who have a permanent abode, family and work base in Japan is detrimental to Japan's long-term interests," the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan said in a statement issued on June 4.

The latest virus hotspots in the US are southern/warm states--Florida, Texas, Arizona, SoCal. Right behind are the carolinas, Georgia, and so on. They're being hammered.

I think that puts to rest the idea that covid-19 will kind of disappear in the summer weather.

One thing is for sure and I mentioned it before, if the people start drinking again at night in the clubs and go to their offices , well in about 2 weeks then we'll start seeing some heavy number increases.
Thing is, I wonder how they come up with these new numbers ? Does one go to the hospital due to a fever?

Last week, they conducted group tests on host club employees in Shinjuku, this week it was a "temp staff" agency and more "entertainers". I assume that as soon as one or two people report sick and show symptoms, they raise a cluster alarm.

It is discriminatory and one of those unfortunate times that Japan has behaved in a way that doesn't really benefit the country but hammers its international reputation, such as intransigence on whaling, visits by politicians to Yasukuni shrine, and the reluctance to sign and enforce the Hague treaty.

• 14 while wining and dining with friends
• 2 are teachers at a public school in Koto Ward which will be closed on Monday for disinfection

I don't think it's fair to compare a developing nation, for the most part, with way off western traditions of hygiene, with how Japan is handling it.

There's a bucket in restroom stalls there... you can do more research on what that's for as I don't want to get into racial (more culturally) subjects when fecal matter has been a link to the spread too.

But, in Japan, hand drying stations are shut off and you can't go to an establishment (in Okinawa, at least) that doesn't have alchohol spray.

I have noticed that about the hand dryers also. Cosmos drug stores have shut them down. Some 7-11's also.

I'll start out with some international news and finish up with Japan. The news about the virus is moving very fast. I can only say, try not to travel. When out shopping, try to go when foot traffic is low. Of course we now know about the masks and its importance of wearing one.

YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - The U.S. military said Saturday that it will ease anti-coronavirus restrictions for troops and other personnel on this Army garrison in Seoul, but unauthorized travel to the capital from other bases remains off-limits.

The move, which begins at noon Monday, came more than a month after U.S. Forces Korea lifted restrictions for bases elsewhere in South Korea but maintained them for Yongsan because of continued cluster infections there.

The number of Defense Department-affiliated personnel diagnosed with COVID-19 this week jumped 18 percent from last week's numbers, according to the latest data.

That came out to 2,345 new cases this week, up from 1,793 last week. Of this week's new cases, 1,782 were among troops, a jump of 20-percent over the previous week.

The Department of Veterans Affairs this week reached a series of new, grim milestones related to the coronavirus pandemic, including topping 20,000 cases of the fast-spreading illness since the nationwide crisis began.

On Friday, department officials reported that they have recorded at least 20,509 cases of coronavirus among patients since early March, when the outbreak began to spread across the United States. The total represents about 7 percent of all individuals tested in the Veterans Health System.

The European Union moved closer to recommending that travelers from the U.S. shouldn't be allowed to enter the bloc even after July 1, according to a draft decision being considered by governments.

Turkey appears to be heading for a second wave too after the virus appeared to be dwindling there in early June.



Globally, there are currently more than 140 vaccines being studied for Covid-19, of which 13 are in the clinical evaluation stage, according to the World Health Organization.

India: An inexpensive, widely used steroid dexamethasone was included in the treatment protocols for COVID-19 patients in moderate to severe stages of illness among other therapeutic measures by the Union health ministry on Saturday. The updated protocol includes the advice to use dexamethasone as an alternative choice to methylprednisolone for managing moderate to severe cases of COVID-19.

Japan's health authorities reported 57 new coronavirus cases and four deaths on Tuesday. The number of confirmed infections stands at 18,034, excluding cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship.

Indeed. I bought stocks at COVID-19 lows and gained about 175% at the peak. However, they are now -10% to 30% and I am at a loss. I am unsure whether to buy stocks that gave me so high P&L at lower prices to average out or invest in new companies that'll undoubtedly do good (but not as good as my picks) for the recovery or wait it out—and it's not because of coronavirus.

It's because, off topic, the civil unrest in the US. Statistics say that if we continue this trend, Biden or whoever the DNC gives it to wins (if markets are green, likely a reelection in I believe 18 cases of 20; if red, new incumbent). Mind you, the markets only behaved like they had over the past 3 years and the next 5 months may determine coronavirus bets a loss for years to come as markets are forward thinking (look into airlines, cruise companys and hotels as they could be 300%ers).

I should have mentioned this coming from a Russian economic professor and as we know the Russian economy in certain parts of the country there is not bad but there's a lot of alcoholism going on and drug abuse in very high unemployment

I wouldn't expect Japan to act reciprocally - I'd be wary about letting Brits into Japan at the moment too! However, I would expect them to let in foreigners with a good reason to be in Japan such as people who study, work, or have family here.

Yes, I always do, with or without coronavirus. From next week on, however, I have to visit a client in Shibuya and they have no parking facilities. I'd never leave my roadbike on the streets there.
