I definately know the military will be into these for map plannings, etc.
I know the new F-32, has this sort of technology for its Multi Purpose Color Displays (MPCD), however, I don't think it is the multi touch type.

I like the way they call it the "multi-touch interaction experiments"... Interesting wording!
Already there are really simplified forms being used for things like interactive presentations, in the work place... nothing like as sophisticated as that, but we have an interactive touch-sensitive display screen at my work place... it can be an kind of electronic whiteboard and also operate as a touchsensitive screen for use with projector... it's a pain in the ***... it goes its own merry way, and makes strange noises at odd times to put off the presenter.

Most fascinating to say the least, misa. Thanks for sharing. I wonder what sort of practical, everyday applications that device would have in the office or at home? I mean, unless I missed something, if all this thing can do is create swirly light shows, it's novelty factor would wear off pretty darn quick, especially with today's short-attention span mentality.

It would revolutionize the entire operating system on a computer (or tvgameconsole).
delete files, just press the trashcan while you select the files to go.
paint in photoshop, change colour by pressing it, 'while' you're actually using a graffiti spray can that is touchsensitive.
you can change all the equalizer knobs in winamp, at the same time, just by moving your fingers.
you can start many programs at the same time, just press the icons with both your hands.
or imagine surfing the net, it would be like in Johnny Mnemonic, you press the links with your hand, hold onto websites and throw them away.
it would be perfect in strategy games, press the farmer and the tree to make the farmer cut the tree.
or databases, searching and moving entries, press two entries to switch places, move two different entries to two different places with both your hands/two fingers, search by pressing categories with one hand and moving the entries with the other.
it's a whole new approach to interacting with the computer.

That might be the most interesting challenge the creaters will have to overcome when marketing this.Flashjeff said:

Well, technology certainly marches on. I mean, who would've envisioned putting movies and five inch discs twenty years ago, or that mobile telephones would one day resemble the communicators on the original Star Trek? It'll be interesting to see what sort of magic this gizmo will eventually be programmed to do! Should be fun!
