Sometimes I encounter: 持ってる, わかってる, 憧れてる, etc. 持ってる, わかってる, 憧れてる is the same as 持っている、わかっている、憧れている. Am I right?

Yes, ～てる is the contraction of ～ている.

There are many other such contractions. To name a few:
やっとる = やっておる
取っとく = 取っておく
落としちゃう = 落としてしまう
分かんない = 分からない
きもい = 気持ち悪い
行きな = 行きなさい (not to be confused with 行くな which means the opposite)
